White Sox, Kendall Graveman Agree On Three-Year, $24M Deal

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with Kendall Graveman, according to a source.

The Seattle Mariners traded Graveman to the Houston Astros on July 27.

After going 4-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 10 saves in 30 appearances in Seattle, he helped bolster the Astros' bullpen down the stretch, going 1-1 with a 3.13 ERA in 23 appearances.

Rangers Give Manager Chris Woodward Extension Through 2023

Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward got a contract extension Friday that goes through the 2023 season and includes a club option for another year after that.

The Rangers before last season had exercised their club option for 2022. Woodward originally got a three-year contract with that option when he became the manager after the 2018 season.

The Houston Astros have agreed to keep Justin Verlander on a one-year, $25 million deal, according to sources.

The deal includes a player option for 2023 as well.

Verlander won the 2019 American League Cy Young, but has made just one appearance since. He made one start during the shortened 2020 season because of elbow issues and missed all of the 2021 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament Sept. 30, 2020.

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a seven-year, $131 million contract extension with Jose Berrios, according to multiple reports.

The Blue Jays acquired Berrios from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline. He went 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 12 starts for Toronto down the stretch.

Robbie Ray, Toronto's presumed ace, is a free agent.

The Atlanta Braves have signed Manny Pina to a two-year, $8 million deal.

The catcher will make $3.5 million next season and $4.5 million in 2023. The contract also includes a $4 million club option for 2024 with no buyout.

Pina, 34, hit a career-best 13 home runs in 75 games with the Milwaukee Brewers this past season.

D-Backs Name Brent Strom Pitching Coach

Brent Strom is joining the Arizona Diamondbacks as their new pitching coach, he told the Houston Chronicle on Friday.

Strom, 73, had served as the Houston Astros' pitching coach since 2014 before saying he was leaving the team following its World Series run last season.

He told the Chronicle that he wanted to "start new again" in Arizona.

"I was home for, like, two or three days and got the itch again," Strom said. "People that have been in baseball a long time really never lose that feel. When the Diamondbacks did call, it was exciting."

Dusty Baker To Return As Astros Manager In 2022

The Houston Astros are bringing back manager Dusty Baker on a one-year deal, the team announced Friday.

Baker, 72, led the Astros to the World Series in 2021 after taking over the team before the 2020 season.

"He's done a great job this last year," owner Jim Crane said. "Great in the locker room, great with the fans, great with the media. We're very, very excited to have him back."
