Former No. 1 overall pick Mark Appel is heading to Minor League camp with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Appel hasn't pitched in a game since 2017. He is one of just three first overall picks to never reach the Major Leagues.

Twins, Randy Dobnak Agree To $9.25M Extension

The Minnesota Twins have agreed to a five-year, $9.25 million contract extension with Randy Dobnak that includes three club options, according to sources.

The deal can max out at $29.75 million with the options and can increase with escalators.

Dobnak signed with the Twins in 2017 out of the independent United Shore Professional Baseball League for $500 after going undrafted.

The 26-year-old is 8-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 19 career appearances, including 15 starts, with the Twins.

Reds, Heath Hembree Agree To Minors Deal

The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to terms on a Minor League deal with Heath Hembree.

Hembree signed with the Cleveland Indians this offseason but was released over the weekend.

The 32-year-old allowed 19 earned runs over 19 innings between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies in 2020.

Pirates Sign Steven Wright To Minor League Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Steven Wright to a Minor League deal and invited him to Major League camp.

The knuckleballer last pitched in the Majors in 2019, when he was limited to six appearances with the Boston Red Sox after serving an 80-game suspension following a positive test for human growth hormone.

He did not pitch in 2020 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Royals, Salvador Perez Agree To Richest Deal In Club History

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a four-year, $82 million contract extension with Salvador Perez, according to a source.

The deal is the richest in Royals history.

The value of the new deal surpasses the four-year, $72 million contract the club gave Alex Gordon in 2016.

The catcher's extension begins with the 2022 season.

"It's hard to believe where I'm coming from, where I grew up, to see the situation I have right now, it makes me feel super happy," Perez said. "My mother is going to be happy. I know my grandma is going to be happy. I know they're excited for me to be here for four more years, maybe five."

Brewers Add Travis Shaw To 40-Man Roster

The Milwaukee Brewers have added Travis Shaw to their 40-man roster, indicating he's one of the leading candidates for playing time at third base.

Shaw spent last season with the Toronto Blue Jays after playing for the Brewers from 2017-19. He signed a Minor League deal with the club last month.

Shaw, who turns 31 on April 16, has a one-year contract paying him $1.5 million while in the majors and $250,000 in the minors.

Pirates To Sign Trevor Cahill

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Trevor Cahill to a one-year, $1.5 million deal.

The right-hander can earn another $1 million in bonuses under the contract.

Cahill had a 3.24 ERA in 25 innings for the San Francisco Giants in 2020. He garnered interest from as many as 16 clubs as a free agent.
