Ivan Nova Signs With KBO's SSG Landers

The SSG Landers of the Korea Baseball Organization have signed Ivan Nova to a contract with a $900,000 guarantee that could be worth up to $1 million.

It's the maximum allowed for a foreign-born player under KBO rules.

Nova, who turns 35 next month, last pitched in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers in 2020.

A's Hire Mark Kotsay As New Manager

The Oakland Athletics have hired Mark Kotsay to be their next manager, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Monday, confirming an earlier report.

Kotsay, 46, was Oakland's third-base coach last season and is a former bench coach with the Athletics. He now takes over for Bob Melvin, who left to manage the San Diego Padres.

New San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin has rounded out his coaching staff with the addition of Matt Williams, a former All-Star third baseman and Washington Nationals manager, and Bryan Price, former manager of the Cincinnati Reds.

Williams, best known for his 10 seasons with the NL West rival San Francisco Giants, will be third-base coach. Price will be senior adviser to the coaching staff.

The New York Mets have hired Buck Showalter as their new manager, team owner Steven Cohen announced Saturday on Twitter.

Showalter, 65, takes over for Luis Rojas, who was fired after a season in which the team held on to first place for 103 days but ultimately finished 77-85 and missed the playoffs.

Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro also were candidates for the post, sources confirmed to ESPN.
