The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $5.7 million deal with Zach Eflin.

Eflin receives a $5.55 million salary this year, and the deal includes a $15 million mutual option for 2023 with a $150,000 buyout. The right-hander can also earn more through performance bonuses.

The Phillies and Eflin had been scheduled for an arbitration hearing on Wednesday. He had asked for a raise from $4.45 million to $6.9 million and had been offered $5.15 million.

New York Mets pitcher Chris Bassitt has an $8.65 million salary this season as part of a one-year contract.

Bassitt is guaranteed $8.8 million as part of the deal, which avoided an arbitration hearing set for Monday.

The deal includes a $19 million mutual option for 2023 with a $150,000 buyout.

Looking to boost their lineup, the Seattle Mariners signed veteran slugger Justin Upton to a one-year contract Saturday.

Upton, a four-time All-Star, was released by the Los Angeles Angels on April 8 heading into the final season of a $106 million, five-year guaranteed contract. Seattle must pay him only a prorated share of the $700,000 major league minimum.

Veteran infielder Robinson Cano has signed with the San Diego Padres, it was announced Friday.

The New York Mets released the 39-year-old Cano on Sunday after designating him for assignment a week earlier.

The Padres likely will use the left-handed-hitting Cano at designated hitter, hoping he can improve their offensive production at the position.

Yusmeiro Petit and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a minor league contract.

The right-hander from Venezuela would get a $1.5 million salary while in the major leagues if added to the 40-man roster and would have the chance to earn $500,000 in performance bonuses for games pitched.
