The Rangers hired Mike Maddux as their new pitching coach Wednesday, and added former Royals general manager Dayton Moore as a senior adviser in their baseball operations department.

Maddux is returning to Texas to be on new manager Bruce Bochy's staff. Maddux was first the pitching coach for the Rangers from 2009 to '15, a span in which they made their only two World Series appearances. 

Moore spent the past 16 years with the Royals, where he was named GM in May 2006 and also served as president of baseball operations before getting fired in September. 

The Phillies signed president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to a three-year contract extension Tuesday.

With the extension, Dombrowski is signed through the 2027 season.

The Phillies advanced to the World Series this past season, Dombrowski's second with the franchise.

Former big league outfielder Will Venable was named Wednesday as associate manager on the staff of new Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy.

The Rangers didn't immediately specify what responsibilities Venable would have with that new title. 

San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson accepted one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offers Tuesday as a dozen other free agents rejected the tender from their teams, sources told ESPN.

The Tampa Bay Rays hired longtime Texas Rangers executive Jon Daniels as a baseball operations senior adviser on Friday.

Daniels spent the previous 21 seasons with the Rangers, including the last 17 overseeing their baseball operations department. He was the longest-tenured top executive in team history.

Fresh off his World Series win, Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has signed a one-year contract to remain with the team next season.

The 73-year-old Baker earned his first World Series championship as a manager in his 25th season as a skipper when the Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games Saturday.

Closer Edwin Diaz and the New York Mets are in agreement on a five-year, $102 million contract, pending a physical, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Sunday.

There's an opt-out and a full no-trade clause plus a sixth-year option in the contract, sources said.

The Diaz deal is the first nine-figure contract ever for a closer, and for the first time, it takes the position into the $20 million-plus range.

The St. Louis Cardinals hired former slugger Matt Holliday, who helped the team win the World Series in 2011, as manager Oliver Marmol's bench coach Sunday.

Holliday replaces Skip Schumaker, who was hired last month as the manager of the Miami Marlins.
