Rangers Hire Mike Maddux As Pitching Coach, Dayton Moore As Adviser

The Rangers hired Mike Maddux as their new pitching coach Wednesday, and added former Royals general manager Dayton Moore as a senior adviser in their baseball operations department.

Maddux is returning to Texas to be on new manager Bruce Bochy's staff. Maddux was first the pitching coach for the Rangers from 2009 to '15, a span in which they made their only two World Series appearances. 

Moore spent the past 16 years with the Royals, where he was named GM in May 2006 and also served as president of baseball operations before getting fired in September.

With the extension, Dombrowski is signed through the 2027 season.

The Phillies advanced to the World Series this past season, Dombrowski's second with the franchise.

Closer Edwin Diaz and the New York Mets are in agreement on a five-year, $102 million contract, pending a physical, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Sunday.

There's an opt-out and a full no-trade clause plus a sixth-year option in the contract, sources said.

The Diaz deal is the first nine-figure contract ever for a closer, and for the first time, it takes the position into the $20 million-plus range.
