Twins Sign Chris Archer To One-Year Deal

The Minnesota Twins have signed Chris Archer to a one-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth $3.5 million and Archer can earn up to $9.5 million this season with performance bonuses, according to sources.

Archer, 33, made five starts and one relief appearance for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, posting a 4.66 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.

Carlos Correa has agreed to a three-year, $105.3 million deal with the Minnesota Twins. The deal includes opt-outs after the first two seasons.

Correa's average salary becomes baseball's fourth-highest behind Mets pitcher Max Scherzer ($43.3 million), Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole ($36 million) and Angels outfielder Mike Trout ($35.5 million).

Correa is coming off perhaps his best season, posting a career-best 7.2 WAR, according to baseball-reference.com, which ranked third in the American League.

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a five-year, $85 million deal with Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki, according to a source.

Suzuki met with the Cubs front office and team chairman Tom Ricketts on Monday night.

The contract is the largest for a Japanese position player coming to Major League Baseball and the second largest behind Masahiro Tanaka's $155 million contract with the New York Yankees.

The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to sign Kyle Schwarber, according to sources.

After being non-tendered by the Chicago Cubs, Schwarber signed with the Washington Nationals before the 2021 season.

The 29-year-old was then traded to the Boston Red Sox at midseason. He hit a combined .266/.374/.554 with 32 home runs in 471 plate appearances.

The Atlanta Braves have added Collin McHugh on a two-year, $10 million deal.

The agreement includes a $6 million club option for 2024 with a $1 million buyout.

He pitched in relief in 30 of his 37 games with Tampa Bay last season. He was 6-1 with a 1.55 ERA and one save.
