Buchholz Eyes Sept. 10 Return To Red Sox

Oct 22, 2014 8:44 AM

Clay Buchholz believes he's on track to return to the Boston Red Sox and start on Sept. 10.

Buchholz pitched 3 1/3 innings Friday night for Triple-A Pawtucket in his second of three scheduled minor league rehab starts.

"I felt really good," he said. "Tonight I was much more impressed with the velocity that I was able to sustain over the period I was out there, and getting over that hump of not really worrying about anything when I'm trying to get a fastball down and away to a righty and have something on it."

Buchholz is working his way back from a bursa-sac shoulder injury.

Jul 14, 2014 9:21 PM

Matt Kemp got five at-bats in his first rehab game with Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday night, taking the next step towards a return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He went 0-for-5 after missing five weeks with a sprained ankle. Kemp served as the team's designated hitter and hit second in the lineup.

"I got more comfortable as the game went on," Kemp said. "I knew I wasn't going to come out feeling super good. But I hit some balls hard and that's all you can ask for."

Injured Matt Harvey Talks To Roy Halladay

Sep 19, 2014 12:37 PM

On his mission to find a non-surgical alternative, young Mets pitcher Matt Harvey is seeking wisdom from the baseball world.

That quest on Tuesday took him to Roy Halladay, one of several players to pitch through unresolved arm issues in the past. Halladay told Harvey that he suffered flexor pronator damage in his forearm around 2006, and never had it repaired.

Shortly after that conversation, Harvey published his now-infamous tweet that he "will be back next year for April 1."

"I just shared that with him and what I went through," Halladay said. "[Dr. James] Andrews had told me that [he] felt like at some point they'd have to go in and repair it. That was eight years ago and I've never had an issue since."

No Surgery For Josh Johnson, But Season Over

Nov 10, 2014 10:30 AM

Josh Johnson is done for the season because of a strained right forearm.

Johnson, who hasn't pitched since Aug. 6, won't require surgery.

"We expected a lot, he expected a lot -- it just didn't happen," John Gibbons said of Johnson's disappointing season. "He had the best spring of our staff; he looked better than most guys we faced on other teams. Who knows [why it didn't work]? Nobody knows."

Johnson made just 16 starts and had an ugly 6.20 ERA in 2013.
