DJ LeMahieu Has Right Foot Fracture

Mar 30, 2024 8:20 PM

New York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu has a nondisplaced fracture in his right foot, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday.

LeMahieu suffered the injury when he fouled a pitch off the top of his foot March 16. Initial testing didn't reveal any structural damage, but another MRI taken Friday, after the swelling subsided, revealed the fracture.

Yankees Move Gerrit Cole To 60-Day IL

Mar 28, 2024 2:09 PM

Any dreams of a speedy return to the mound for reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole were dashed Thursday when the New York Yankees moved the right-hander to the 60-day injured list due to elbow inflammation.

On March 16, Cole said he wouldn't throw for three to four weeks in an effort to heal his ailing throwing elbow, telling reporters that nerve irritation and edema were the source of his problem, with rest and recovery the prescription.

Rangers' Max Scherzer Could Return Earlier Than Expected

Mar 28, 2024 8:40 AM

The Texas Rangers may not place Max Scherzer on the 60-day injured list to begin the season.

That may indicate that Scherzer could return earlier than expected in the aftermath of his offseason back surgery to repair a herniated disc.

Scherzer, 39, had originally been expected to miss the first couple months of the season.

The Rangers acquired Scherzer from the New York Mets last trade deadline.

Sewald had 13 saves down the stretch in the regular season and six more in the playoffs for Arizona.

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu Lands On IL With Bruised Foot

Mar 26, 2024 7:56 AM

New York Yankees leadoff hitter D.J. LeMahieu will start the season on the injured list because of a bruised right foot.

LaMahieu has been sidelined since fouling a ball off the foot on March 16. He is expected to miss at least the seven-game trip that starts Thursday at the Houston Astros.

"It's a little bit slow go on the recovery side," Brian Cashman said. "He banged it up pretty good."

An MRI and CT scan last week were both negative. Cashman said there will be a follow-up MRI this week.

Brandon Woodruff Won't Pitch This Season, Targets 2025

Mar 24, 2024 2:49 PM

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff says he won't pitch this season while he recovers from surgery to his throwing shoulder.

When Woodruff underwent the surgery in October, the Brewers said the two-time All-Star was expected to miss most, if not all, of the season. Woodruff told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel last week that he won't pitch this year and is targeting a return in 2025.

"Honestly, I'm going [to] be the strongest I'll ever be at any point in my career because I'm going [to] have a year and just basically get my body ready for pitching," Woodruff told the newspaper.

Bryce Harper Says He'll Be Ready For Opening Day Despite Back Issue

Mar 20, 2024 8:06 AM

Bryce Harper has been prescribed rest for his ailing back, but he anticipates being ready well before Opening Day.

Harper sat out Monday for the fourth consecutive spring training game with soreness in his lower back. He left last Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox.

Given his back issues in the past, Harper is aware of outside concern about his availability early in the season. He said he "overdid it" and will be ready for Opening Day on March 28 against the Atlanta Braves.

"I feel pretty confident. I'm fine," he said.
