Alex Gordon Undergoes Wrist Surgery

Alex Gordon underwent successful right wrist surgery on Tuesday morning by hand and wrist specialist Dr. Bruce Toby at the University of Kansas Hospital. 

While no formal timetable is being announced, Gordon is expected to be recovered in plenty of time for the 2015 season opener against the White Sox on April 6 in Kauffman Stadium.

Scutaro Undergoes Back Surgery, Putting Career In Jeopardy

Marco Scutaro has undergone back surgery that could end his career.

San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean announced during a conference call Monday that Scutaro had the fusion procedure performed by Dr. Michael Wang in Miami on Friday.

It will be four-to-six months before doctors determine whether Scutaro can play baseball again.

The 39-year-old played in only five games last season because of recurring back problems.

Athletics Release Nick Punto

The Oakland Athletics have released Nick Punto.

Punto was released to make room for right-handers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez, who were acquired in a trade with the San Diego Padres for Derek Norris.

The 14-year veteran was due to make $2.75 million after his contract option for the 2015 season vested.

Markakis Has Neck Surgery For Herniated Disk

Nick Markakis has undergone surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck.

The fusion operation was performed Wednesday in Atlanta by Dr. Steven Wray.

The Atlanta Braves say the operation was a success and Markakis should be able to resume baseball activities before spring training in late February.

Markakis signed a four-year, $44 million deal with the Braves this offseason.

Jason Kipnis Has Finger Surgery

Jason Kipnis underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a damaged tendon in his left ring finger, an injury he sustained while working out with weights in Chicago.

Kipnis was examined over the weekend by team medical personnel and his operation was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic.

Cleveland Indians head trainer James Quinlan expects Kipnis to be on the field when spring training opens in Goodyear, Arizona on Feb. 18. Quinlan said Kipnis should be able to run, field and throw, but that it may be a while before he can hit.
