Shohei Ohtani 'Feeling Good,' Eyes 50 Preseason ABs

Feb 22, 2024 8:58 AM

Shohei Ohtani saw six live pitches during a batting practice session on Wednesday, just his second of Spring Training.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani wants to take 50 spring training at-bats to feel ready for the regular season.

The five at-bats he has taken through two live-BP sessions essentially count, Roberts said, as do indoor sessions off a Dodgers pitching machine that can mimic pitch characteristics.

"I feel like I have more than enough time to get 50 at-bats," Ohtani said.

Ohtani, 29, isn't expected to play in any of the Dodgers' Cactus League games this week but could play shortly thereafter.

Aaron Judge's Toe To Require 'Constant Maintenance'

Feb 20, 2024 7:32 PM

Aaron Judge's big toe is more than a footnote for the New York Yankees.

Judge missed 42 games after tearing a ligament in his right big toe when he crashed into the right-field fence at Dodger Stadium last June 3, a big reason the Yankees fell from postseason contention.

"It's going to be I think a constant maintenance I think the rest of my career," Judge said Tuesday. "Anything with injuries like that, you just got to stay on top of it so it doesn't flare up again."

Manny Machado Ramps Up Workouts

Feb 14, 2024 1:19 AM

San Diego Padres star Manny Machado, who underwent offseason surgery to alleviate tennis elbow in his right arm, has been throwing for roughly six weeks and has spent the last week or so ramping up the intensity on the field.

Swinging a bat and fielding ground balls isn't a problem, Machado said. The biggest question, which hovers over his availability for the Padres' season-opening two-game series from South Korea on March 20, is "what my arm can tolerate throwing wise."
