While Matt Harvey is unlikely to pitch again for the New York Mets this season, the decision regarding Tommy John surgery is still a few weeks away.

Harvey has to wait 2-3 weeks for swelling to subside in order to determine if the extensive surgery is required for the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.

The right-hander expressed hope he could avoid surgery by strengthening the area around the ligament tear.

Harvey is 9-5 this season with a 2.27 ERA and 191 strikeouts.
