Bourjos Breaks Wrist Against Astros

Oct 19, 2014 2:32 AM

Peter Bourjos is headed to the disabled list with a broken wrist.

Bourjos suffered the fracture against the Astros on Saturday.

He said the injury is "non-displaced," meaning that he could theoretically play when the pain is manageable, but he is expected to miss at least two weeks.

"There'll be a DL time, and we'll see what the timeframe is," Mike Scioscia said. "Early indications are that it might be a shorter stint than we'd imagine because of where the fracture is. We're following the lead of our medical staff every step of the way."

Josh Beckett will undergo season-ending surgery, the Dodgers have announced.

After consulting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Greg Pearl, the Dodgers decided Beckett would undergo surgery to relieve pressure on the nerve in his neck area, known as thoracic outlet syndrome.

Beckett is expected to be sidelined three-to-five months, which would put him back on the field in time for spring training.

Cueto Lands On DL For Third Time

Oct 19, 2014 2:32 AM

The Reds have placed Johnny Cueto on the disabled list for the third time this season because of issues with his right lat muscle.

"It's very disheartening," Dusty Baker said. "So close to being himself. It's hard. I just hope we can come up with a solution."

Cueto returned to Cincinnati on Saturday to be examined by Reds medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek.

He was on the DL from April 15 to May 19 with a strained right lat. He missed the first half of June with what was called a strained right shoulder, though it was related to the lat problem.

Tulowitzki Making Progress, Doing Light Throwing

Oct 5, 2014 7:00 PM

Troy Tulowitzki's broken rib is healing and he hopes to return in time to help his team make a run at a division title.

The Rockies are four games back in the National League West.

Tulowitzki has begun some light throwing and the injury feels more like a "bruise" after two weeks on the disabled list. He was injured diving for a ball against Washington on June 13 and is projected to miss four to six weeks.

"I've been able to play some light catch and trying to keep my conditioning up," he said. "I haven't been able to swing and do stuff like that. That would be the next step at some point and time, but no rush. When I'm ready, I'm ready. I don't know what that timetable will be."
