The left-handed reliever, who turns 39 in May, had a 3.80 ERA, but a 1.74 WHIP, in 48 appearances for the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Red Sox last year.

The Reds have agreed with free agent pitcher Jeff Francis on a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training camp, a baseball source said.
Francis will earn a base salary of $1.5M if he makes the Reds' big league roster, the source said. The deal includes performance bonuses based on starts that could increase his total payout to $3.25M.
He signed a one-year deal with Kansas City and went 6-16 with a 4.82 ERA in 31 starts last season.
Yankees Sign Hiroki Kuroda
The Yankees today announced they have signed right-handed pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year Major League contract.
Kuroda, 36, went 13-16 with a 3.07 ERA (202.0 IP, 69 ER) in 32 starts with the Dodgers in 2011, establishing career bests in wins, ERA, games started, innings pitched and strikeouts (161).
"I feel happy to be a part of such a storied franchise, which is always in contention for a World Series," Kuroda said. "I am also very proud to be a part of this current team, which boasts so many great players. As a member of the Yankees, I would like to do my part by doing the best I can throughout the season. I hope that I can make a difference in achieving the team's ultimate goal, which is to win the World Series."
