Oct 28, 2022 8:41 AM

George Springer had surgery this week to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

The 33-year-old skipped the All-Star Game in July because of pain in the elbow and later sat out 10 days in August. The Toronto Blue Jays said Thursday he is expected to be ready for spring training.

Springer signed a six-year, $150 million contract with Toronto before the 2021 season.

Mariners' Julio Rodriguez Broke Finger In ALDS

Oct 20, 2022 7:56 AM

Julio Rodriguez broke his left pinkie in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros, according to Seattle Mariners lead executive Jerry Dipoto.

An exit exam this week revealed the injury to the 21-year-old, but he's not expected to need surgery.

Rodriguez got hurt sliding headfirst into second base on a double in the eighth inning of what became an 18-inning marathon the Mariners lost 1-0.

The rookie also dealt with back and wrist injuries during the season, with the lower back strain popping up late in the season and costing him time when the Mariners were pushing for a postseason spot.

"He just needs to have some downtime, get his body feeling good again," Scott Servais said. "He went through a lot. He's never played this much baseball, certainly at this level, the intensity and the emotional toll that it takes on you when you go through a season like that."

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks said he will miss the remainder of the postseason after injuring his left knee in a third-inning collision with rookie shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera during Game 5 of American League Division Series on Tuesday.

Hicks underwent an MRI that revealed the injury would require a six-week recovery timeline.

"Extremely disappointing," Hicks told reporters in relaying the news. "[This season] is obviously something special and I want to be a part of it. And now I'm no longer going to be able to play on the field to help this team win, help this team win a World Series and now I just gotta watch on the sidelines."

Starling Marte Unlikely To Play In Wild Card Series

Oct 5, 2022 8:22 AM

Starling Marte is improving "little by little" as he works his way back to the field from a broken right middle finger.

Buck Showalter wouldn't commit to the New York Mets carrying Marte on the roster for the Wild Card series, which kicks off Friday.

The manager said Marte is "not to the point where he can play in a game."

Marte suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch on Sept. 6. He swung a bat and hit off a tee for the first time Monday, but it did not go well.
