Rays' Shane McClanahan To Have Tests On Shoulder

Aug 31, 2022 8:45 AM

The Tampa Bay Rays scratched Shane McClanahan from his scheduled start against the Miami Marlins Tuesday because of left shoulder impingement.

McClanahan, 25, was named an All-Star last month and has a 2.20 ERA over 24 starts. He will undergo further testing on Wednesday.

"Going into the game, something just didn't feel right," McClanahan said. "Just couldn't get loose. Can't put a finger on it."

Fernando Tatis, Jr. Has Surgery Postponed By Illness

Aug 31, 2022 8:42 AM

Fernando Tatis, Jr. had to postpone a scheduled left shoulder surgery because he has strep throat.

The San Diego Padres shortstop was slated to have the labrum in his left shoulder repaired on Tuesday, but that procedure now will be delayed a week or so while he recovers from the illness.

The delay is not expected to affect Tatis' return next season after he's done serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Yankees' Jameson Taillon Hit By Liner; X-rays Negative

Aug 31, 2022 8:39 AM

Jameson Taillon was pulled from the New York Yankees' win against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday after only two innings, after being hit by a 91 mph liner off the bat of Magneuris Sierra.

The club later announced Taillon had a right forearm contusion and that X-rays for a possible fracture were negative.

"X-ray's negative, obviously; feeling better already. Started trying to get the swelling out of there," Aaron Boone said. "Obviously, [the ball] got him good. We'll just have to see how the next couple of days unfold."

Twins Don't Expect Kenta Maeda To Return During Regular Season

Aug 30, 2022 8:33 AM

The Minnesota Twins don't expect Kenta Maeda to return from the injured list during the regular season.

Maeda underwent an internal brace Tommy John surgery last September. He hasn't suffered any type of setback, but the Twins are simply running out of time to get him back on the mound in 2022.

Maeda has been throwing bullpen sessions but hasn't yet started out on a minor league rehab assignment.

Justin Verlander Exits After Three Innings With Calf Issue

Aug 28, 2022 7:25 PM

Astros ace Justin Verlander left his start on Sunday after three innings and 60 pitches, with the team later announcing he has right calf discomfort.

Verlander struck out six and allowed three hits and one walk to the visiting Orioles before departing his shortest outing of the season. The game was scoreless at the time.

"He's going in for some imaging [Monday]," Houston manager Dusty Baker said. "He felt that -- when he was covering first base -- that it was his calf. And that is the best of bad news. We were really glad that it wasn't anything to do with his arm or elbow or anything like that."

Trevor Rosenthal's Status Remains In Doubt

Aug 28, 2022 1:12 PM

Brewers reliever Trevor Rosenthal's status for the rest of the season is in doubt due to a lat injury, the latest setback for a former All-Star closer who hasn't pitched since the 2020 playoffs.

"I think there's still a possibility (he could return) in the regular season, but it doesn't look great," manager Craig Counsell said before the Brewers' game Saturday night against the Cubs. "I think we'll kind of gather some more information in the next couple of days, how we're doing here and what kind of direction Trevor wants to take with this."
