Astros Place Jose Altuve On IL With Hamstring Strain

Apr 22, 2022 8:41 AM

The Houston Astros have placed Jose Altuve on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.

"We didn't think he'd be ready to go in a week and it's a 10-day IL and we'll reevaluate it from there," Dusty Baker said.

Altuve left the Astros' win over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night with the injury. He legged out an infield single with one out in the eighth and then fell to the ground past first base. He sat on the ground and threw his batting helmet into the ground as he winced in pain.

Baker said Altuve apologized for suffering the injury.

"He was disappointed and he apologized, which you don't have to, but that's the kind of guy he is," Baker said. "Sometimes you can't help it. This guy's been a rock. He's played everyday for a number of years and hopefully he didn't hurt it too badly and he'll be all right hopefully within a couple of weeks."

Fernando Tatis, Jr. Returns To Light Baseball Activity

Apr 19, 2022 8:29 AM

Fernando Tatis, Jr. returned to the field on Monday for some light baseball activity as he works his way back from a fractured left wrist.

"Any day on the field," Tatis said as he walked through the dugout into the clubhouse, "is a good day."

Tatis made throws across the diamond for about 30 minutes. He simulated taking ground balls by holding the baseball in his left hand, going through his fielding motion and then throwing the ball to first base.

"He was out at shortstop today, making some throws to first base, and he's doing a lot of conditioning, trying to do as much activity as he possibly can," Bob Melvin said. "He's doing a lot of stuff ... but the last thing will be putting a bat in his hands."

Tatis underwent surgery on March 16 to repair a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist. That operation, the San Diego Padres said, would come with a recovery timetable of approximately three months.
