Lance McCullers Has Setback In Bid To Return

May 29, 2023 3:40 PM

Houston Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. is no longer throwing off the mound and is back to throwing on flat ground in his bid to return from a muscle strain in his forearm.

McCullers, who first experienced soreness in the forearm in February, had been throwing bullpen sessions earlier this month. He has yet to pitch in a game this season.

"We have to take it slow with Lance until we know that he's 100 percent. That's where it is right now," Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters Monday.

Willy Adames Hit By Foul Ball, Headed To IL

May 27, 2023 1:20 AM

Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was to spend the night in the hospital after being struck by a foul ball from teammate Brian Anderson while watching from the dugout during Friday night's game against the San Francisco Giants.

"He was alert and responsive as he left, and then we got pretty good news at the hospital, too," Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said after the Giants' 15-1 win. "Obviously, he's in pain. But I think overall I think not bad news, considering how scary it was."

Counsell said that tests revealed no fractures, but Adames would remain in the hospital overnight "just for monitoring purposes" and would get placed on the injured list.

He logged just 47 2/3 innings last season, posting a 2.27 ERA and 50 strikeouts against 22 walks.
