Giants' Alex Cobb To Undergo Hip Surgery

Oct 31, 2023 7:32 AM

Alex Cobb will undergo surgery on his left hip labrum Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants announced.

The surgery will address an issue that ended Cobb's 2023 season midway through September.

The left-hander will need approximately six months to return to pitching, which means he won't be ready for Opening Day 2024.

Cobb has a $10 million club option for next season, with a $2 million buyout.

Adolis Garcia To Undergo Imaging On Left Torso

Oct 31, 2023 1:12 AM

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia will undergo imaging on his left torso after grabbing it and leaving Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night following a swing in the eighth inning. Garcia's injury came after Max Scherzer, the Rangers' Game 3 starter, exited in the fourth inning after a spasm flared in his back.

The dual injuries put a damper on an otherwise-productive night for the Rangers, whose 3-1 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks gave Texas a two-games-to-one advantage in the series.

Max Scherzer Has Cut On Thumb That Won't Hinder Him Pitching

Oct 25, 2023 8:30 PM

Max Scherzer has a cut on the thumb of his pitching hand that he doesn't think will hinder him from playing in the World Series.

The Texas Rangers starter had a Band-Aid on the inside of his right thumb near the nail before throwing a bullpen session Wednesday, two days before the World Series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"It's just a cut. I can wear a bandage, throw a bullpen on it," Scherzer said. "The pain of it, I can pitch through that. That's not the problem. It's just it would get bloody."

Fulmer ended the season on the injured list after going 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA and two saves in 58 games (one start). He is set to become a free agent after playing on a one-year, $4 million contract.

Max Scherzer declared himself "ready to go" after throwing another bullpen session and doing fielding drills Friday, two days before the Texas Rangers open the American League Championship Series.
