Rangers Place Nathan Eovaldi On IL With Forearm Strain

Jul 30, 2023 2:50 PM

The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right forearm strain.

The move is retroactive to Thursday and comes after the team opted to skip the two-time All-Star's turn in the rotation as a bid to give their starters some rest.

Eovaldi, 33, has posted an 11-3 record with a 2.69 ERA in 19 games (all starts) this season.

Angels' Taylor Ward Suffers Facial Fractures, Placed On IL

Jul 30, 2023 2:48 PM

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward suffered facial fractures when he was hit in the head by a pitch during Saturday's game, the team announced.

Ward, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, had been taken to a Toronto hospital for testing after being struck by a 91 mph pitch from Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah in the fifth inning. The ball appeared to strike Ward next to his left eye, knocking off his batting helmet and sending blood running down his face.

Ward was released from the hospital Saturday night.

Aaron Judge Could Return To Yankees On Friday

Jul 27, 2023 8:21 AM

Aaron Judge could return to the lineup for the New York Yankees as early as Friday.

Sidelined since early June with a toe injury, Judge played another simulated game Wednesday at the team's complex in Tampa, Florida. He returned to New York after that, Aaron Boone said.

Boone said he didn't know yet if Judge would come off the injured list Friday to face the Baltimore Orioles.

"We'll kind of see where we're at tomorrow," Boone said. "I'm not sure if he's going to run through a workout or if rehab stuff's on the table. I don't know that yet. When I talk to him and get with the trainers we'll come up with a plan."

Earlier Wednesday, the New York Post reported Judge is expected to be activated Friday barring a late setback.

Guardians Transfer Shane Bieber To 60-Day IL

Jul 25, 2023 8:07 AM

Shane Bieber will be sidelined until at least mid-September because of elbow inflammation, a significant blow to the Cleveland Guardians.

Bieber hasn't pitched since July 9. The Guardians transferred him to the 60-day injured list.

Terry Francona said Bieber did not experience a setback while rehabilitating in Cleveland but won't be back until the season's final month.

"Shane is actually self-reporting that he's doing great, which we love hearing," Francona said. "But when you do the math, it's going to be another six days until he throws, then three weeks after that until he gets back on the mound. That's six weeks right there."

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said Sunday there wasn't a timetable for when Kershaw would throw in the bullpen or face live hitters. Over three days, the update from Roberts changed from Kershaw throwing to hitters, to instead throwing a bullpen, to doing neither.
