Rangers Place Jacob deGrom On 15-Day DL With Elbow Inflammation

Apr 30, 2023 1:21 AM

Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation after early exits in two of his past three starts.

While his departures from those games were attributed to right wrist soreness and forearm tightness, general manager Chris Young said an MRI showed some inflammation in the elbow.

"There's no need to push him," Young said. "He came in today and felt OK, which is a positive, but given how important he is to us and our season, we're going to play this very cautiously and see how he responds over the next several days to treatment."

Apr 29, 2023 6:22 PM

New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has a mild hip strain that manager Aaron Boone said the team will continue to evaluate through the weekend before determining whether the reigning AL MVP will go on the injured list.

"In the grand scheme of things and big picture, we do feel like we got good news on it," Boone said before Saturday's game at Texas. "That said, we want to make sure we're doing right by him and by us."

Aaron Judge Has MRI On Sore Hip

Apr 29, 2023 1:58 PM

The New York Yankees finished their game Friday night still uncertain about the status of captain Aaron Judge after tests on his sore right hip.

Judge didn't play in the Yankees' 5-2 loss in Texas, and manager Aaron Boone said afterward that they were still waiting for team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad to review the test results.

"It doesn't seem too serious. But that said ... we still don't have a clear picture of it yet," Boone said.

Aaron Judge Leaves Game With Right Hip Discomfort

Apr 28, 2023 8:16 AM

Aaron Judge exited Thursday's 4-2 win against the Texas Rangers early because of right hip discomfort, the New York Yankees announced.

Judge struck out in his only two at-bats before he was replaced in right field in the bottom of the fourth inning by Oswaldo Cabrera.

He said he felt "a little grab in the hip area" after his second strikeout.

"After that headfirst dive the other night, just kind of whole right side has been a little locked up," Judge said. "It wasn't until the second-to-last swing of that at-bat I felt something grab, and they thought it would kind of best just to shut it down and see how we feel after a couple of days."

Kenta Maeda Headed For MRI With Elbow Soreness

Apr 27, 2023 8:33 AM

Kenta Maeda is headed for an MRI after feeling elbow soreness during Thursday's start against the New York Yankees.

Rocco Baldelli indicated the Minnesota Twins right-hander would "need some time off" but downplayed any major concern.

The manager suggested the team doesn't believe the issue related to the Tommy John surgery that sidelined Maeda for the entire 2022 campaign.

Mariners' Robbie Ray To Have Season-Ending Surgery

Apr 27, 2023 8:15 AM

Robbie Ray will have surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his pitching elbow and will miss the rest of the season.

The Seattle Mariners made the announcement on Wednesday night.

"Tough news," Scott Servais said. "Obviously, it's really hard for Robbie. He's a really good competitor and we miss not only what he does every fifth day when he takes the ball, but certainly being a really good teammate and having a guy around that we can lean on."

Ray, in the second season of a $115 million, five-year contract, was injured in his season debut on March 31.

"In the second inning it felt a little tight, but it didn't seem out of the ordinary," he said. "It was a cold night, I just thought maybe it took me a while to get loose in that second inning. I didn't really think that much about it, but after that my arm started to tighten up a good amount."

Report: Justin Verlander Could Make Mets Debut In Early May

Apr 25, 2023 6:39 AM

Justin Verlander has yet to make his debut for the New York Mets, but he's inching closer to the mound.

Verlander suffered a teres major muscle strain just hours before Opening Day.

He threw a successful simulated game on Sunday, and now he's likely in line for a minor-league rehab start on Friday. That likely means Verlander should make his 2023 debut during the Mets' road series against the Detroit Tigers that begins on May 2, according to a report.

The Mets signed Verlander this past offseason to a two-year, $86.67 million contract.

Jose Altuve 'Ahead Of Schedule' In Return From Thumb Surgery

Apr 24, 2023 8:32 AM

Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown has given a positive update on injured star Jose Altuve.

Altuve was estimated to have to wait two months to resume baseball activities when he underwent thumb surgery in late March.

Brown told Jim Bowden that Altuve is "ahead of schedule" in his rehab. Altuve is showing "great movement" in his injured thumb, and the second baseman "will get an x-ray in 12 days or so to see how the thumb is healing, but [it] appears that it's healing very well," the GM added.

If he continues to trend this way, Altuve could return in mid-May rather than early-June.

Angels' Logan O'Hoppe Likely Out 4-6 Months

Apr 24, 2023 8:26 AM

Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe has a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for four to six months.

O'Hoppe, who bats and throws right-handed, first injured his left shoulder on a swing last Monday against the Boston Red Sox. He injured it again while hitting a single Thursday in the ninth inning of the Angels' road loss to the New York Yankees.

He is batting .283 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 16 games.

The Angels acquired O'Hoppe from the Philadelphia Phillies near the trade deadline last season for Brandon Marsh.
