Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown has given a positive update on injured star Jose Altuve.

Altuve was estimated to have to wait two months to resume baseball activities when he underwent thumb surgery in late March.

Brown told Jim Bowden that Altuve is "ahead of schedule" in his rehab. Altuve is showing "great movement" in his injured thumb, and the second baseman "will get an x-ray in 12 days or so to see how the thumb is healing, but [it] appears that it's healing very well," the GM added.

If he continues to trend this way, Altuve could return in mid-May rather than early-June.
