Brewers Reliever Punches Wall, Breaks Hand

Sep 30, 2021 8:33 AM

The Milwaukee Brewers will likely be without reliever Devin Williams this postseason after the right-hander broke his pitching hand punching a wall after having a few drinks following Sunday's game that clinched the National League Central division title.

David Stearns told reporters Williams will undergo surgery to put a plate in his hand to repair the fracture and that the injury will likely "keep him out for the remainder of the season."

Williams told local reporters that after the team celebration, "I went out to have a few drinks and [at] my home I was a little frustrated, upset, and I punched a wall. That's how it happened."

Noah Syndergaard Makes Start, Jacob deGrom Shut Down

Sep 29, 2021 8:46 AM

Noah Syndergaard took the mound for the New York Mets on Tuesday, his first Major League start in two years in a delayed comeback from Tommy John surgery.

The right-hander topped out at 96 mph and struck out his first two batters in a perfect inning, throwing nine of 10 pitches for strikes. He was removed after the first inning.

"I felt great," Syndergaard said. "It was amazing to get back out there."

The Mets also announced that Jacob deGrom won't pitch again this season. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has been sidelined since mid-July because of an elbow injury that has healed.

Carlos Rodon To Test Sore Arm Wednesday

Sep 28, 2021 8:18 AM

Carlos Rodon will take the ball for the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds in what Tony La Russa called an "interesting" and "important" start.

Rodon is looking to shake off arm soreness before the playoffs. He threw a bullpen session on Sunday in Cleveland.

"He didn't really let it go to where [it was] anything game-like but he said he's good to try it on Wednesday," La Russa said. "So we're good to see it."

Rodon has been hampered by arm fatigue in the second half, spending time on the injured list, then taking extra days between starts.

White Sox 'Concerned' As Carlos Rodon Leaves Start

Sep 21, 2021 9:13 AM

Carlos Rodon left Monday's game with what he called "normal soreness" and said he didn't think it would impact his immediate future while Tony La Russa expressed "concern" over his short outing.

"He lost command," La Russa said. "He was struggling. Actually fortunate to only give up three runs. He came back in and said he wasn't right."

Rodon, 28, threw 69 pitches over three innings, giving up three runs in the third for the Chicago White Sox against the Detroit Tigers.

"Disappointed in myself to go out there and give up three runs when they put up three runs for me," he said. "That's a shutdown inning and that's on me. Honestly, it's pretty s---ty."

Yankees Hope Luis Severino Can Help Out Of Bullpen

Sep 21, 2021 9:03 AM

The New York Yankees activated Luis Severino ahead of Monday's game against the Texas Rangers.

Severino is finally in position to make his first Major League appearance in nearly two years.

"It's been long enough," he said. "Definitely be ready for any situation."

Aaron Boone said he plans to use Severino out of the bullpen down the stretch. The Yankees are a half-game off pace in the wild-card race in the American League.

"He could find himself in the highest-leverage situation or whatever and could evolve into a multi-inning role," Boone said. "We feel like we got a really good pitcher we got to add to the mix today."
