The Los Angeles Angels have acknowledged that Mike Trout could be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Trout suffered a right calf strain on May 17. His rehab from the injury has been slowed by continued soreness.

Los Angeles has less than 30 games left and is 8 1/2 games back of the second American League Wild Card spot.

"It's a possibility," Maddon said when asked about shutting Trout down. "We're probably getting closer to having to say something like that. But he still wants to continue to fight, and we're going to honor his wishes. However Mike sees this, we're going to go with it that way."
