Twins' Top Prospect Royce Lewis Out For 2021 Season

Feb 25, 2021 8:01 AM

Royce Lewis, considered the Minnesota Twins' top prospect, has a torn ACL in his right knee that will sideline him for the 2021 season.

Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said Lewis was diagnosed with the injury during physical exams upon reporting to spring training. The 21-year-old, the first overall pick in the 2017 amateur draft, will have reconstructive surgery Friday in Minnesota.

Lewis told the team he first noticed discomfort in the knee after lateral running drills this month as part of his training regimen.

J.T. Realmuto Out With Broken Thumb

Feb 19, 2021 7:48 AM

J.T. Realmuto broke the thumb on his throwing hand while blocking a pitch six days ago.

He practiced with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, but an MRI later revealed the small fracture. Realmuto said he's confident he'll be ready for the season opener on April 1 but wants to make sure his thumb has healed.

"I'm not very worried about my thumb, so if I was a Phillies fan, I wouldn't be too worried," he said.

The Phillies signed the catcher to a five-year, $115.5 million contract this offseason.
