Charlie Morton Fractures Fibula In Game 1, Out For World Series

Oct 29, 2021 12:57 AM

Charlie Morton suffered a fractured fibula in Game 1 of the World Series as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Houston Astros.

Morton retired back-to-back hitters despite taking a 102 mph one-hopper off the bat of Yuli Gurriel in the second inning.

The starter underwent an initial X-ray that, according to Brian Snitker, didn't reveal a break. He threw some baseballs against a net, surmised that the pain was tolerable when he wasn't running and came back out for the bottom of the third.

Six pitches later, he was finished for the season.

"I hate it for him," Snitker said. "He's such a great person -- great person and teammate. I really hate it for him because I know he's really looking forward to this run with us. So we'll move on."

Dodgers' Joe Kelly To Miss Rest Of Postseason

Oct 22, 2021 8:16 AM

Joe Kelly is likely to miss the remainder of the postseason with a right biceps strain after leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers' 11-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

"Just the way it reads right now," Dave Roberts said, "that will be it for the rest of the season for him."

Kelly posted a 2.86 ERA in 48 appearances during the regular season, and he had become a critical middle-innings piece for the Dodgers.

Dodgers' Justin Turner Likely Done For Season

Oct 22, 2021 8:17 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers will likely be without Justin Turner for the remainder of their season.

Turner sustained a hamstring injury while hitting into a double-play in the seventh inning of a 9-2 loss against the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 of the NLCS on Wednesday night.

Dave Roberts revealed in his postgame interview that the early indication is that Turner has a Grade 2 strain, which is defined as a partial tear of one or more hamstring muscles.

"So, I think that'll be it for him," Roberts said. The normal recovery period for a partial tear is four to eight weeks.

Dodgers Hopeful Max Muncy Can Return In Postseason

Oct 6, 2021 1:33 PM

Max Muncy's ulnar collateral ligament is intact and thus won't require surgery. But the Los Angeles Dodgers' first baseman won't be available for Wednesday's National League Wild Card Game against the St. Louis Cardinals or for the ensuing division series against the San Francisco Giants, should L.A. advance.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he is "still trying to hold out a glimmer of hope" for a late October return, but that also seems far-fetched. Muncy is hopeful, too, for what it's worth.

"I have to be," he said. "If I'm not hopeful, then it's gonna be a rough couple of weeks for me."

White Sox Optimistic Carlos Rodon Will Pitch In Playoffs

Oct 5, 2021 7:44 AM

The Chicago White Sox believe Carlos Rodon will be healthy enough to help them in the playoffs.

The left-hander was limited down the stretch.

"We remain optimistic that he's going to be able to contribute over the course of the next month," Rick Hahn said. "Obviously, given the amount of work that he has endured this season -- the jump from the previous years -- his strength and comfort and general level of soreness and fatigue is something that we continue to monitor."

Hahn said Rodon will only pitch once during the best-of-five division series against the Houston Astros that begins Thursday. If the White Sox advance, they'll evaluate his workload on a series-by-series basis.

Rodon has a history of arm and shoulder injuries and threw just 28 innings over the final two months of the regular season.

Max Muncy 'Very Unlikely' To Play In NL Wild Card Game

Oct 4, 2021 8:42 AM

Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy is "very unlikely" to play in the NL Wild Card Game, according to manager Dave Roberts, after he injured his left elbow in the third inning of Sunday's 10-3 win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

He is also "unlikely" for the division series in the event the Dodgers advance, Roberts said, while adding, "I just don't want to count Max out.''

Muncy had tests that were "unclear,'' according to Roberts.
