Eloy Jimenez To Miss 5-6 Months With Ruptured Pectoral Tendon

Mar 26, 2021 7:59 AM

Eloy Jimenez is expected to be sidelined for five to six months after rupturing his left pectoral tendon trying to make a play in the outfield during an exhibition game this week.

"Obviously a difficult loss for us, important part of our offense, and one that is a bit of a shock to the system," Rick Hahn said.

"At the same time, if there was one area of this team that perhaps could withstand a significant blow, it would arguably be on the offensive side of things."

Jimenez, 24, hit .296 with 14 homers and 41 RBIs in 55 games during the pandemic-shortened season.

As the Chicago White Sox search for replacements in left field, Leury Garcia, Adam Engel, Nick Williams and Billy Hamilton are candidates.

Mar 24, 2021 8:30 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays are likely to be without Kirby Yates this season.

The reliever is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery. Ross Atkins told reporters that Yates had undergone an MRI after originally being diagnosed with a flexor-pronator strain.

"It's most likely going to be a Tommy John revision," Atkins said. "Still very fresh with the information. But that's the most likely outcome."

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen Has Hairline Fracture In Forearm

Mar 24, 2021 8:22 AM

Zac Gallen has a hairline fracture in his right forearm, casting more doubt on his ability to open the season on the active roster for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Gallen, 25, hurt his forearm after getting jammed while taking batting practice nearly two weeks ago.

He was practicing his hitting because the National League will switch back to pitchers batting for the 2021 season after adopting the designated hitter rule during 2020's shortened schedule.

"It's definitely frustrating considering I'm kind of an advocate for the DH," Gallen said. "I get paid to pitch, that's kind of how I look at it. It comes along with the job. I play in the National League -- you have to hit, you have to bunt, you have to do those certain things."

Blue Jays' Nate Pearson Aggravates Strained Right Groin

Mar 17, 2021 7:07 AM

Nate Pearson aggravated his strained right groin during a bullpen session Tuesday, decreasing the right-hander's change of making the Toronto Blue Jays' Opening Day roster.

"We do feel it's very mild in nature but want to re-asses that and then just take it a day at a time," Ross Atkins said.

Pearson strained his groin in his debut spring training outing March 1. He felt fine after a bullpen session Saturday, his first since the injury.

A first-round pick in the 2017 amateur draft, Pearson is Toronto's top pitching prospect.
