Charlie Morton suffered a fractured fibula in Game 1 of the World Series as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Houston Astros.

Morton retired back-to-back hitters despite taking a 102 mph one-hopper off the bat of Yuli Gurriel in the second inning.

The starter underwent an initial X-ray that, according to Brian Snitker, didn't reveal a break. He threw some baseballs against a net, surmised that the pain was tolerable when he wasn't running and came back out for the bottom of the third.

Six pitches later, he was finished for the season.

"I hate it for him," Snitker said. "He's such a great person -- great person and teammate. I really hate it for him because I know he's really looking forward to this run with us. So we'll move on."
