Brewers Place Corbin Burnes On IL With Unspecified Issue

Apr 30, 2021 9:16 AM

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed Corbin Burnes on the injured list with an unspecified issue.

Burnes, one of baseball's hottest pitchers, was scheduled to face the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend.

Craig Counsell said he couldn't comment on the situation when asked directly whether Burnes had tested positive for COVID-19.

"Corbin is on the injured list," Counsell said. "I can't discuss it."

MRI Reveals No Major Issues With Christian Yelich's Back

Apr 28, 2021 8:00 AM

The Milwaukee Brewers are moving along with their plan for Christian Yelich after an MRI on his strained lower back showed no major issues.

Yelich hasn't played since April 11.

"We basically just ruled out anything significant structurally that would show up on the MRI," Craig Counsell said. "We still need to make progress to get him back on the field and so from that perspective not much has changed. But we'll keep moving forward and see what some activity tomorrow at the field brings."

The Brewers could have activated Yelich this past weekend.

Cody Bellinger Unsure When He'll Return From Leg Fracture

Apr 23, 2021 9:21 AM

Cody Bellinger is still uncertain when he will return from a hairline fracture in his left leg.

Bellinger said Thursday that he feels "great," but the 2019 NL MVP must wait to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I can't really do much until the bone heals, which depends on each person," he said. "But once that bone heals up, what I've been told is you're ready to go from there."

Bellinger was injured April 5 when Athletics reliever Reymin Guduan inadvertently spiked him at first base in Oakland.

George Springer Close To Debut For Blue Jays

Apr 23, 2021 9:18 AM

George Springer will play in an intrasquad game Friday, the next step in his return from two strained muscles that have delayed his debut with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Springer signed a team-record $150 million, six-year deal with the Blue Jays this offseason. He has missed time with a strained oblique and right quadriceps strain.

The outfielder could return in this weekend's road series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

"He's excited; we're exceptionally excited," Ross Atkins said Thursday. "Tomorrow is a great day for George.

"He's doing all baseball activity, he's extremely confident and strong," Atkins said. "Now it's just a matter of recovery and putting him in a position to play nine innings and feel like he can face elite major league pitching. Tomorrow will be a very important day to determine what that next step is and what's best for him."

Padres' Dinelson Lamet Leaves With Forearm Tightness

Apr 22, 2021 7:38 AM

San Diego Padres starter Dinelson Lamet left his season debut Wednesday after two scoreless innings because of right forearm tightness.

Lamet will get an MRI and is considered day-to-day.

The right-hander struck out four after a single to start the game. He threw 19 strikes out of 29 pitches, reaching 97 mph on his fastball.

"He was feeling good, but it began tightening up on him in the second inning," Jayce Tingler said. "His fastball was salty today. Through all that he's been through, it's really the first setback of any kind he's had. But it's hard to simulate the adrenaline of an actual game. We'll have more info in a couple of days, but hopefully he can continue to pitch. It's day-to-day."

Lamet, 28, had not pitched since leaving his final start of 2020 with elbow discomfort and missing the playoffs.
