Yu Darvish Has Elbow Impingement, Inflammation

Jun 30, 2018 12:37 PM

Yu Darvish has a new diagnosis on his injury: It's a right elbow impingement and inflammation.

Darvish went to Texas to get another opinion on the sore triceps muscle that flared up again in a bullpen session Thursday. Following the Cubs' win over Minnesota on Friday, team spokesman Peter Chase confirmed the right-hander had consulted with Dr. Keith Meister, an orthopedic surgeon who is one of the Rangers' team physicians.

During the visit, Darvish got a cortisone shot in the area. Chase said the injection would take three to five days "to settle in."

Injury Setback May Make Josh Donaldson Trade Difficult

Jun 27, 2018 9:17 AM

The Toronto Blue Jays are on the outside of the American League playoff picture, but a Josh Donaldson trade may now be more unlikely.

Donaldson has only played in 36 games this season and recently suffered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury.

He suffered an acute strain while taking groundballs in preparation for a rehab game. The Blue Jays will re-evaluate him in three weeks.

That puts Donaldson's return to the Major Leagues at least 4-6 weeks away.

The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31.

Mike Trout Hopes To Play Field 'In A Few Days'

Jun 27, 2018 2:22 AM

Mike Trout threw a baseball for the first time in a week on Tuesday as he continues to deal with a sprained right index finger.

Trout has served as the designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels in seven straight games.

"Hopefully, I'll play in a few days," he told reporters.

Trout is 5-for-22 since taking over the DH role full-time.

"It's tough," Trout said. "Obviously I want to get out there, just the mindset of staying locked in. It's been different, but I'm trying my hardest to get back in the outfield."

Kris Bryant To Miss Second Straight Game

Jun 24, 2018 1:41 PM

Kris Bryant will miss his second consecutive game with a sore left shoulder on Sunday, though the Cubs don't believe it's a serious injury that will require a trip to the disabled list.

"It's okay," Bryant said Sunday morning. "I think it's a result of swinging too much...It's been pretty sore for about five days."

Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka has cleared a key hurdle in his rehab program for strained right and left hamstrings, throwing 26 pitches in his first bullpen session.

"I was kind of being a little bit cautious about it," Tanaka said through a translator. "But it turned out that I didn't feel anything."

Mike Trout Dealing With Sprained Index Finger

Jun 22, 2018 8:31 AM

Mike Trout served as designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday in his 1,000th Major League game.

"Obviously I want to be out in center," Trout said, "but it is what it is."

Trout has a sprained right index finger that is affecting his ability to throw, according to the Angels. He will be re-evaluated "in a few days" to assess when he can return to center field.

Trout thinks he injured his finger while playing in Oakland last weekend but that he can't pinpoint when or how the injury occurred.

"I think it was just over time," Trout said. "I don't know one spot when it happened, but it's pretty painful."

Brandon Morrow Lands On DL After Undressing

Jun 21, 2018 9:39 AM

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow has landed on the disabled list with back spasms.

Morrow hurt himself while undressing after returning home from the team's trip to St. Louis early Monday morning.

"Just undressing at my house," Morrow said. "Like 3 a.m., in the closet, got my right leg off. Left one just felt like a spasm in my back.

"It's frustrating any time you can't get out there, especially when you can't go because of something stupid like taking your pants off."

Joe Maddon said the matchups will dictate who closes with Morrow sidelined.

"We thought it would be wise to give him a couple of days," Maddon said of Morrow. "We just can't go with one less pitcher right now. We just cannot."
