The New York Yankees expect to be without Masahiro Tanaka for weeks with strains of both hamstrings.

New York's pitching depth will be tested as Jordan Montgomery underwent Tommy John surgery last week.

"It's certainly unfortunate, but it creates an opportunity for others," Brian Cashman said. "We're forced to find some things out in other areas with some other personnel. That's always healthy, too."

After replacing Montgomery with Domingo German, the Yankees could turn to minor leaguers Jonathan Loaisiga or Luis Cessa.

"We're always open to outside help, no matter what time of year it happens to be," Cashman said. "But we also have internal options we can rely on. … It's always important to have depth, no doubt about that."
