Hanley: Back Injury Is 'Worst Pain I've Ever Had'

Jun 24, 2014 10:40 PM

Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez left Sunday's game against the Dodgers with lower back stiffness. Ramirez called the back injury the "worse pain I've ever had in my life, in my career." He wasn't in the lineup on Monday and says he's day-to-day. "It's going to be day to day," Ramirez said. "I'm getting tingles in my [left] leg, so that's not a good sign. That's what we're worried about right now."

Holliday Returns To Cardinals Lineup

May 1, 2014 7:22 PM

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday moved into the starting lineup for the first time since experiencing tightness in his left quad on May 22. Holliday returned to his normal cleanup spot for the first game of a four-game set against defending World Series champion San Francisco. "It's nice to be able to get back out there," he said. "I'm here to play. I'm not here to sit." St. Louis manager Tony La Russa welcomed Holliday's big bat back in the lineup. "I think he's good to go," La Russa said. "He's not going to try and steal second base, but I think he's ready to play."

Webb, Borbon Taking Steps To Return

Jul 27, 2014 1:23 AM

Rangers right-hander Brandon Webb begin a 30-day injury-rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco by starting against Tulsa on Monday. It is Webb's first true game appearance since April 6, 2009, when he worked four innings in an opening day start for Arizona. In August 2009, Webb underwent surgery to remove debris and inflamed tissue from his right shoulder. Since then, he has faced hitters only in controlled situations such as batting practice and extended spring training games. "I look at it as the next step in the process," Webb said Sunday. "I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure there will be more adrenaline, and that should help." Texas outfielder Julio Borbon, on the disabled list since May 14 because of an inflamed left hamstring, will accompany Webb to Frisco.

Posey Out For Season After Surgery

Oct 31, 2014 6:30 AM

Giants catcher Buster Posey is out for the season after having surgery Sunday to repair three torn ligaments in his ankle, according to an ESPN.com report. "He's not going to be back this season," head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said in a conference call with reporters. "He will have another surgery somewhere in the 8- to 10-week mark to take out some of that hardware that the doctors put in. That's already determined. ... Add that to rehab time, and I don't see him making it back this season." Groeschner said Posey had two screws inserted into his lower leg to stabilize the ankle over a surgery that lasted about 90 minutes early Sunday morning.

Sizemore To Play In Field Next Week

Jun 9, 2014 5:36 PM

After a trio of games in the designated hitter's spot this week, Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore will definitely play at least one game in the field during the team's upcoming series against the Blue Jays. A loss of timing at the plate was the main concern for Sizemore, who has gone 0-for-8 with three strikeouts after being reinstated prior to Friday's game at Tampa Bay. Sizemore has been able to hit in the batting cages since a knee contusion sidelined him. He was hitting .282 (22-for-78) with six homers and 11 RBIs when he slid hard against Tampa Bay on May 10, sustaining a deep contusion around his knee.
