Tim Hudson Undergoes Back Surgery

Braves right-hander Tim Hudson has had surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. The team expects him to be ready for spring training. Hudson has had discomfort in his back the past two seasons. The surgery was scheduled after the pain became worse during his offseason workouts.

Zambrano Plans To Make Next Start

Carlos Zambrano, who is trying to earn his way back with the Cubs for the final year of his contract, told his winter league team that he plans to make his next start on Friday. The right-hander needed 16 stitches after being hit in the face by a line drive during his most recent start in Venezuela. The drive was deflected slightly by Zambrano's glove before striking him just below and to the right of his mouth.

Cubs right-hander Carlos Zambrano will be examined on Monday after taking a line drive off his lip, which required 10 stitches. The incident occurred in the Venezuelan Winter League on Friday, where Zambrano was in the midst of his best outing. After giving up one unearned run on two hits and two walks over five innings for Caribes, but had to leave the game after being hit in the face. Zambrano was taken to a local hospital and needed 10 stitches, according to reports. He told the Caribes manager that he intended to make his next start, which would be Wednesday or Thursday. However, Zambrano will be examined again on Monday to determine when he can pitch again.

Josh Hamilton Has Sports Hernia Surgery

Josh Hamilton had surgery Friday morning to repair a sports hernia, an injury he played through during the entire postseason, the Rangers announced. Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery in Philadelphia, the second similar one he's done on Hamilton the past three years.
