Mets Sign Bruce Maxwell

The New York Mets have agreed to a contract with Bruce Maxwell, according to reports.

The catcher's deal is pending a physical and coronavirus intake testing.

Maxwell hasn't played in the majors since 2018 with the Oakland Athletics. He was the first Major League player to kneel during the national anthem to protest social injustice; that was in 2017.

Nationals Sign Josh Harrison To One-Year Deal

The Washington Nationals have signed Josh Harrison to a one-year contract for the 2020 season.

Harrison was released by the Philadelphia Phillies last week. He requested his release.

The 33-year-old has started games at second base, third base, shortstop and both corner outfield spots during his nine years in the majors.

"The only positions that I haven't played are catcher and first -- I've even got a third of an inning on the mound," he said.

The deal comes after Nick Markakis opted out of the season earlier this month.

Puig, 29, batted .267 in 149 games last season with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.

The signing bonus in the deal is a record $8.4 million, according to a report.

Adley Rutchsman of the Baltimore Orioles set the previous record ($8.1 million) last year.
