M's Kyle Seager Retires After 11 MLB Seasons

Kyle Seager announced his retirement Wednesday after 11 seasons in the majors, all with the Mariners.

Always one to eschew social media, Seager made his decision known through a short statement posted by his wife, Julie, on her Twitter account.

"Thank you to all of my family, friends and fans for following me throughout my career. It's been a wonderful ride but I am unbelievably excited for the next chapter of my life,'' the statement says.

Holiday Bowl At Petco Park Canceled Due To COVID

The Holiday Bowl, scheduled to take place Tuesday at Petco Park, was canceled just hours before kickoff due to COVID-19 cases within UCLA's football program.

The game between UCLA and N.C. State was set to be the first of five Holiday Bowls at the San Diego Padres' ballpark.

Virginia Tech To Wear 'NY' On Helmets For Pinstripe Bowl

Virginia Tech will honor the New York Yankees on their helmets when they play Maryland in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.

The football team revealed its uniforms on Twitter Tuesday night, and the helmets include the Yankees' white interlocking "NY" outlined in Hokies orange on the maroon headgear.

Blue Jays Planning $200M Renovation Of Rogers Centre

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the process of finalizing plans to renovate Rogers Centre, according to a report.

The renovations for the soon-to-be 33-year-old ballpark are expected to run more than $200 million and will redesign the stadium's lower bowl, and modernize the ballpark throughout. 

It was reported last year that the Blue Jays were looking into demolishing Rogers Centre and building a new stadium in the same location with sports-centered real estate development in the surrounding area.

Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $17 million to avoid arbitration before the Dec. 1 lockout that has shut down Major League Baseball and frozen transactions, sources familiar with the agreement told ESPN.

The deal was not announced after the lockout, as teams are not referencing players by name during the work stoppage that has lasted more than three weeks and will stretch into the new year.

Pirates Hire First In-Uniform Female Coach

The Pittsburgh Pirates have hired an in-uniform female coach for the first time in franchise history.

Caitlyn Callahan will serve as a development coach for the organization, based out of its Pirate City complex in Bradenton, Florida.

Callahan, a former Division I softball player at Boston University, comes to the Pirates with Major League experience after serving as the Cincinnati Reds' Minor League video and technology intern for the past two seasons.

She also served the Staten Island Yankees as a baseball operations assistant in 2019 and was the assistant GM for the Cape Cod League's Brewster Whitecaps, a college summer baseball team, in 2017-18.

Melvin hired Matt Williams and Bryan Price.

Williams will serve as third-base coach, while Price will be senior adviser to the coaching staff.

Melvin was hired on Oct. 28 to replace Jayce Tingler.

Kimera Bartee, who played six seasons as a Major League outfielder before becoming a coach and instructor, passed away suddenly at age 49.

Bartee had just been brought back on A.J. Hinch’s coaching staff after joining as first-base coach midseason. 

He had previously coached with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies before joining the Tigers a year ago to serve as their baserunning instructor.
