Dusty Baker Says Job With Astros Is 'Last Hurrah'

Jan 31, 2020 7:15 AM

The Houston Astros officially introduced Dusty Baker as their new manager on Thursday.

The Astros fired A.J. Hinch earlier this month in the wake of a sign-stealing scam that was investigated by Major League Baseball.

Baker, 70, has been chasing a World Series title for decades.

"I was happy, but I wasn't satisfied, where I was and what I was doing because something's missing,'' he said. "And I think the Lord gave me the best chance to accomplish what I need as a person, as a father, and as a man.''

Baker has 22 years of managing experience.

"This is my last hurrah," he said. "And I thought my last hurrah was in Washington, actually, because I gave all my stuff away. I went to find my shoes, went up to the attic and I found the empty bag. ... So this is a new beginning for me."

Cubs, Rockies Have Discussed Bryant-For-Arenado Trade

Feb 3, 2020 9:16 AM

The Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies have discussed the possibility of a blockbuster trade.

According to a report, they have discussed a one-for-one deal that would send Kris Bryant to the Rockies in exchange for Nolan Arenado.

Colorado would likely pay some of the $234 million that remains on Arenado's contract.

This is something I heard very recently -- that, yes, Arenado would love to play for the Cubs," ESPN's Jesse Rogers said during a radio appearance. "I’ll go one step further. That they’ve even discussed a one-for-one deal, Kris Bryant for Nolan Arenado, where the Rockies pick up a good portion of Arenado’s salary over the length of the contract. I’m talking $7 or $8 million per year.

"That’s how much they need to get rid of Arenado," Rogers added, "and he wants out."

Reds Not Expected To Trade Nick Senzel

Jan 30, 2020 7:53 AM

The Cincinnati Reds are expected to hold off trading Nick Senzel, according to Dick Williams.

He is expected to be on Cincinnati's Opening Day roster.

"Yeah, I do," Williams said when asked if he thinks Senzel will be on the Opening Day roster. "I like what he brings to our club. He's one of our own. He's an impact, young offensive player. They don't come along very often. The flexibility he brings to the club, attitude he brings. At this point, we see him as very much a part of a winning, championship team here."

Senzel was rumored in trade talks for most of the winter.

Jan 31, 2020 7:18 AM

Kris Bryant lost his grievance against the Chicago Cubs and won't become a free agent until after the 2021 season, according to a source.

Bryant was seeking an extra year of service time, which would have allowed him to hit free agency earlier.

With two seasons of team control left, the Cubs can seek more in a possible trade involving Bryant.
