Naykel Cruz To Hold Showcase For Interested Clubs

Oct 31, 2024 8:08 AM

Cuban left-hander Naykel Cruz will hold a showcase for interested clubs next week in the Dominican Republic, according to a report.

It had been speculated that Cruz would sign as a professional rather than an amateur and had interest from six Major League teams.

Cruz has tossed 241 1/3 innings in Cuba, allowing 4.18 earned runs per nine. He struck out 205 of the 1,074 batters he faced, a rate of 19.1%.

Per MLB rules, players coming from foreign leagues are considered "amateurs" until they are both 25 years old and have played six professional seasons.

Cruz turned 25 in September and started playing in the Cuban National Series in 2019.

Juan Soto Open To 'Every Single Team' In Free Agency

Oct 31, 2024 7:55 AM

Juan Soto will hit free agency in a few days after the New York Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series on Wednesday night.

"It's going to be exciting," said Soto, who turned 26 last week. "It's going to be a good experience. I think every player in the big league wants to experience this. So it's exciting to see how it's going to be."

He posted a .288 batting average, 41 home runs and 129 walks and a .989 OPS in his first season with the Yankees after coming over in a trade with the San Diego Padres.

"I'm really happy with the city, with the team, but at the end of the day we will see," Soto said of returning to the Yankees. "We're going to look at every situation, every offer that we get. I don't know what teams want to come after me, but definitely I'll be open to listen to every single team. I don't have any doors closed or anything like that, so we're going to be available for all 30 teams."

Soto is expected to receive a deal worth roughly $600 million in total.

"I think everybody in this room wants him back. ... He just does a lot of the little things that people don't notice that truly make him one of the best players, if not the best player in the game," Aaron Judge said.
