Super-utility man Tommy Edman and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a five-year, $74 million contract extension that will keep the National League Championship Series MVP with the World Series champions through at least 2029.
The team announced the deal Friday.
The San Francisco Giants "are believed to have significant interest" in free-agent pitcher Corbin Burnes, according to a report.
The Giants lost Blake Snell in free agency, creating a hole in their starting rotation.
While the Toronto Blue Jays are seen as a "dark horse, at best" for Juan Soto, the club is casting a wide net in free agency, according to a report.
Toronto also has interest in third baseman Alex Bregman, outfielder Anthony Santander, left-hander Max Fried and right-hander Luis Severino.
The New York Yankees have increased their initial offer to Juan Soto in free agency, according to a report.

Shohei Ohtani wants his former interpreter to hand over hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of baseball cards he says were fraudulently bought using his money.
Ohtani is also requesting Ippei Mizuhara, who previously pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud for stealing nearly $17 million from the unsuspecting athlete, return signed collectible baseball cards depicting Ohtani that were in Mizuhara's "unauthorized and wrongful possession," according to court documents.
The legal filing alleges Mizuhara accessed Ohtani's bank account beginning around November 2021, changing his security protocols so that he could impersonate him to authorize wire transfers. By 2024, Mizuhara had used that money to buy about $325,000 worth of baseball cards at online resellers eBay and Whatnot, according to the court documents.
Shortstop Brandon Crawford announced he was retiring from baseball Wednesday after a 14-year career in which he made three All-Star teams and won two World Series championships with the San Francisco Giants.
"Baseball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and for the rest of my life I will be thankful for the opportunities and experiences it has given me," Crawford wrote in an Instagram post. The Los Angeles Dodgers met with Soto, but the meeting may have been a matter of convenience. The Dodgers just won a World Series without Soto and the meeting may have been more of a way to drive up his price and put pressure on Teoscar Hernandez to re-sign with the club.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been mentioned in rumors, but they reportedly haven't had a single conversation with Scott Boras about Soto.
The Atlanta Braves are looking for outfield help this offseason, according to a report.
Atlanta's preference would be to add a left-handed hitter.
The Braves' projected lineup has just four players who bat left on either a part- or full-time basis.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been exploring the potential trade market for Nolan Arenado over the past few weeks.
Multiple teams have expressed interest, and while talks haven't progressed very far, there's a "growing sense throughout the industry" that Arenado will be traded, according to a report.
Discussions are likely to intensify as the Winter Meetings approach.
Arenado is even open to playing more at first base to create roster flexibility for a potential new team. He has a full no-trade clause and three years and $74 million left on his contract, but $10 million of that will be paid by the Colorado Rockies.
The Boston Red Sox are serious about their pursuit of Juan Soto in free agency.
The Red Sox "are increasingly seen as a legitimate contender in the sweepstakes for the generational slugger as word is they are stepping up efforts to lure the superstar hitter away from their historic AL East nemesis," according to a report in the New York Post.
Boston is one of five clubs that have made a contract offer to Soto.
