The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers had a "preliminary" trade agreement in place that would have sent Jack Flaherty to the Bronx earlier this week, according to a report.
However, the Yankees "backed out" of the trade after reviewing Flaherty's medical records.
The Tigers ended up trading the right-hander to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Flaherty, 28, has a 2.95 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings this season.
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter is not expected to play again this year, according to general manager Chris Young.
Carter has not played since May 26 with what the Rangers called lower back tightness.
The 21-year-old was a breakout star for the club last postseason en route to a World Series victory.
Carter made his Major League debut on Sept. 8, and slashed .306/.413/.645 in 23 games to help Texas secure a wild-card berth. In the playoffs, he hit .300/.417/.500 in 17 games.
The Baltimore Orioles will call up Jackson Holliday from Triple-A on Wednesday, according to sources.
The top prospect struggled during his first stint in the Major Leagues two months ago.
Holliday is expected to slot in at second base, where the Orioles had been starting rookie Connor Norby. He was traded, along with outfielder Kyle Stowers, to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday for left-hander Trevor Rogers on Tuesday.
The No. 1 pick in 2022, Holliday went 2-for-34 with 18 strikeouts over 10 games with the Orioles earlier this year.
The Los Angeles Angels are shutting down Mike Trout's rehabilitation after a recent setback in his recovery from meniscus surgery.
Trout had surgery May 3 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
"We're going to shut down his rehab in general," general manager Perry Minasian said of Trout. "He's going to get reevaluated. He still doesn't feel good, so we'll see where that goes."
Minasian did not reveal any details about Trout's setback and did not specify how much more time he would miss.
Asked if Trout will be able to come back before the season ends, Minasian said, "We'll see."
