Albert Pujols Homers Off Record 450th Different Pitcher

Aug 30, 2022 8:22 AM

Albert Pujols hit the 694th home run of his career on Monday night in Cincinnati.

The home run came against a 450th different pitcher, a Major League record.

Reds reliever Ross Detwiler gave up a 369-foot, two-run homer to right field in the third inning of the St. Louis Cardinals' 13-4 win.

"Obviously, his career speaks for itself," Detwiler said. "All of his numbers are better than anything I've seen in person. It is kind of unbelievable. He's been so good for so long.

"I got ahead of him. I tried to go high fastball. I didn't get it high enough, and it leaked over the plate a little bit more than I wanted it to. The ball jumps off his bat."

Pujols is now just two home runs shy of tying Alex Rodriguez for fourth on the all-time list (696).

Aaron Judge homered late in the New York Yankees' 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.

Judge becomes just the 10th player in Major League history to record multiple 50-home run seasons.

Assuming he plays in all of the Yankees' remaining games, Judge is on pace to hit 63 home runs this season.

"It's just another number," he said. "It's great, but I'm kind of upset we lost. It's a close game we could've won."

Paul Goldschmidt Making Push For NL Triple Crown

Aug 26, 2022 7:49 AM

After a huge day at the plate on Thursday, Paul Goldschmidt is making a late push for the National League Triple Crown.

Goldschmidt had three hits, two home runs and five RBI in the St. Louis Cardinals' 8-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

He's currently first in batting average (.339), second in home runs (33) and first in RBI (105).

"Listen, if something like that happened it would be a miracle," Goldschmidt said of potentially winning the Triple Crown. "To think that's realistic is probably pretty far-fetched. Like I said, if something like that did happen, it would be pretty amazing, but to think that's a goal for anyone, that's a crazy standard."

Aug 22, 2022 7:50 AM

Albert Pujols clubbed a pair of home runs against the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend, giving him 692 for his career.

Pujols has six homers in his last nine games.

With his career winding down, Pujols has said he'll retire after this season, the slugger could become just the fourth player to hit 700 home runs.

The St. Louis Cardinals have 42 games left, but they've been platooning him.

Even if he doesn't reach 700, Pujols can surpass Alex Rodriguez (696) for fourth on the all-time home run list.

Cardinals Prospect Chandler Redmond Hits For HR Cycle

Aug 11, 2022 10:53 AM

For just the second time in Minor League Baseball history, a player has hit for the home run cycle.

"It's unbelievable," Redmond said. "I don't even know what words to use to describe the feelings right now."

There has never been a home run cycle in the Major Leagues.
