Giancarlo Stanton Seventh-Fastest To Reach 350 Home Runs

Apr 28, 2022 8:02 AM

Giancarlo Stanton launched a 417-foot home run on Wednesday, allowing him to become the seventh-fastest player to reach 350 career homers.

Stanton reached the milestone in 1,341 games. The only players to reach 350 homers faster were Babe Ruth, Albert Pujols, Harmon Killebrew, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez and Mark McGwire.

"That's pretty cool," Stanton said. "When I began this journey, I didn't know really what to expect or where I'd be or how long I'd be around. So, it's cool for me."

Yankees Walk Miguel Cabrera To Spoil Shot At 3,000th Hit

Apr 22, 2022 8:31 AM

The New York Yankees intentionally walked Miguel Cabrera late in Thursday's game to deny the Detroit Tigers star a shot at his 3,000th hit.

As fans at Comerica Park booed the decision, Cabrera motioned for fans to calm down and pointed to the scoreboard.

"We're winning, 3-0, so it's OK," Cabrera said he tried to explain. "It's 3-0 in the [eighth]. We have the lead."

Cabrera was 0-for-3 as the cleanup hitter. He was walked after Austin Meadows hit a two-run double.

"This is baseball, you know? It was a lefty behind me at the plate," Cabrera said. "To walk me intentionally, that’s part of the game. I went 0-for-3, but we got a chance to win. Beautiful."

Dodgers Pull Clayton Kershaw After Seven Perfect Innings

Apr 14, 2022 8:13 AM

Clayton Kershaw was perfect through seven innings in his season debut on Wednesday when Dave Roberts pulled him from the game.

Kershaw was pulled after 80 pitches in the Los Angeles Dodgers' eventual 7-0 win over the Minnesota Twins.

The left-hander had 13 strikeouts at the time and agreed with the decision.

"Those are selfish goals," Kershaw said of a possible perfect game. "We're trying to win. That's really all we're here for."

Roberts consulted with Kershaw after the sixth inning and the pair agreed on one more inning with an 85-pitch limit.

"I would have loved to have stayed, but bigger things, man, bigger things," Kershaw said.

With his six singles, two doubles, one triple and five walks since Opening Day, Kwan has reached base 15 times in his first four MLB games -- the most any player has recorded since at least 1901.

"Pretty impressive debut, I'd say," Whit Merrifield said.
