Orioles' Austin Hays Hits For Cycle

Jun 23, 2022 7:52 AM

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays needed just six innings to hit for the cycle on Wednesday night.

Hays is the sixth player in Orioles history to accomplish the feat.

He clinched the cycle with a double in the sixth inning. Hays got an infield single in the first inning, hit a solo shot in the third and tripled in the fourth.

A heavy rain threatened to end the game in the middle of the fifth.

"We came inside and it became unclear if we were going to finish the game or not," Hays said. "I wasn't sure with more rain coming if I was going to get the opportunity."

Stephen Strasburg Rocked For Seven Runs In 2022 Debut

Jun 10, 2022 7:54 AM

Stephen Strasburg struggled in his 2022 debut, allowing seven runs in the Washington Nationals' 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.

The 33-year-old, who was pitching on the 13th anniversary of the Nationals selecting him with the No. 1 overall pick, lasted 4 2/3 innings.

"It felt good, and I'm excited to learn from it and get back out there for the next one," Strasburg said. "Fastball command could have been better in certain spots there. I felt the changeup was working pretty well. All in all, it's a place to start and try to build off of it."

The right-hander had not pitched in a Major League game since June 1 last year, spending much of the time recovering from surgery on July 28 to correct thoracic outlet syndrome, a compression of nerves, arteries or veins near the neck or armpit.

Twins Open Game With Three Consecutive Home Runs

Jun 10, 2022 7:50 AM

The previous trio to accomplish the feat was the Arizona Diamondbacks' Jarrod Dyson, Ketel Marte and David Peralta off Jerad Eickoff of the Philadelphia Phillies on June 10, 2019 -- almost three years to the day.

Cole, who gave up eight hits and lasted 70 pitches, had not allowed more than three home runs in a game in his Major League career.
