Francisco Lindor Out Indefinitely With Ankle Injury

Mar 28, 2019 8:34 AM

Francisco Lindor has had a setback in his recovery from a strained right calf muscle.

Lindor sprained his left ankle while running the bases in a minor league intrasquad game at the team's spring training home in Arizona.

An MRI on Lindor's ankle found a mild to moderate acute sprain, according to the Cleveland Indians.

Because the timetable for that injury had not yet been finalized by the team's medical staff, Lindor's return from the ankle sprain was still being determined.

Mar 19, 2019 7:59 AM

Clayton Kershaw won't be ready for Opening Day, according to Dave Roberts.

Kershaw has been slowed by shoulder inflammation this spring and has yet to pitch in an official Cactus League game.

The left-hander, however, has been throwing and completed a bullpen session without any issues on Sunday.

"When he's ready to pitch for us is when he'll pitch for us," Roberts said.

Kershaw has started eight-straight Opening Days for the Dodgers.

Clayton Kershaw Unlikely To Be Ready For Opening Day

Mar 16, 2019 7:27 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acknowledged that it's unlikely Clayton Kershaw will be ready to pitch by Opening Day.

Kershaw has been slowed by shoulder inflammation this spring and has yet to pitch in an official Cactus League game.

The Dodgers will open the season on March 28 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"It's unlikely," Dave Roberts said. "Unlikely is fair. But I don't want to close the door, but it's more, obviously, when you look at the calendar, it's more unlikely."

Bryce Harper Bruises Foot, Phillies Aren't Concerned

Mar 16, 2019 7:24 AM

Bryce Harper suffered a bruised right foot when he was hit by a pitch during a spring training game Friday.

However, the Philadelphia Phillies aren't overly concerned about the injury.

Initial X-rays were negative.

"Bryce has a right foot contusion," Gabe Kapler said. "Right now we don't have reason for major concern, but obviously we want to go inside and take a look first.

"Certainly extra scary given where we are in camp. We're confident and we understand we have a good club on the field, and we're confident that Bryce is going to be all right."

Harper was hit by a 96 mph fastball from Toronto Blue Jays rookie Trent Thornton.

Luis Severino Likely Out Until May

Mar 16, 2019 7:21 AM

The New York Yankees will likely be without Luis Severino until May as he deals with a shoulder injury.

Brian Cashman told reporters on Friday that it was unlikely Severino would be ready to pitch in a game before May 1 because of the rotator cuff inflammation that flared up in his right shoulder just before a start two weeks ago.

The rotator cuff became inflamed minutes before a March 5 start at George M. Steinbrenner Field against the Atlanta Braves.

Angels Shut Down Andrew Heaney With Inflamed Elbow

Mar 15, 2019 7:57 AM

The Los Angeles Angels have shut down Andrew Heaney with what the club is describing as elbow inflammation.

Heaney was a candidate to start on Opening Day.

Brad Ausmus said it isn't expected to be a long-term injury, but Heaney might have to begin the season on the injured list.

"I'm frustrated," Heaney said, "but it's something we just have to take care of now."

Heaney was originally scratched from his March 3 start because of elbow inflammation but was cleared to resume throwing.

Yankees Shut Down Luis Severino With Shoulder Inflammation

Mar 6, 2019 7:44 AM

The New York Yankees have shut down Luis Severino for two weeks after an MRI showed he has rotator cuff inflammation in his right shoulder.

Severino won't be ready to start on Opening Day.

He was a late scratch ahead of his scheduled appearance Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves.

"When he was getting warmed up for the game, he just threw a pitch and felt something around the lat or back of the shoulder and just didn't feel right, so [he] walked off," Aaron Boone said. "He's going to see the doctor and get an MRI this afternoon and kind of hope for the best."
