Dodgers Aren't Yet Worried About Clayton Kershaw

Feb 27, 2019 7:41 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers aren't worried about Clayton Kershaw's status for Opening Day.

"We have so much depth in our pitching," Dave Roberts said. "I haven't put any thought into Opening Day outside of Clayton."

Kershaw is taking a few days off from throwing because of a sore left shoulder.

"Right now, the main thought for us is see how he feels Thursday and then we can set out a schedule at that point," Roberts said. "Right now, we feel good about what we're doing as a staff, as an organization, and we'll go from there."

Carlos Martinez Shelved For Two Weeks After PRP Injection

Feb 27, 2019 7:36 AM

Carlos Martinez had a platelet rich plasma injection on Monday and won't throw for two weeks.

The St. Louis Cardinals are hoping the injection will stimulate healing in his weak pitching shoulder.

It's unlikely that he'll be in the starting rotation at the beginning of the season.

Martinez, 27, threw two bullpen sessions at the start of spring training but has missed the past week.

Clayton Kershaw Dealing With Shoulder Inflammation

Feb 25, 2019 7:17 AM

Clayton Kershaw has taken a step back from throwing because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder, but he doesn't need an MRI and is taking anti-inflammatory medication.

Kershaw is expected to play catch on Monday, but the Los Angeles Dodgers haven't specified how much he will throw or at what distance he will throw from.

"It's just the shoulder, probably inflammation getting ramped up," Dave Roberts said. "Says he continues to feel better. When he will throw a baseball, probably soon."

Kershaw will start on Opening Day for the Dodgers.

Cardinals To Re-Evaluate Carlos Martinez On March 5

Feb 20, 2019 9:01 AM

The St. Louis Cardinals have shut down Carlos Martinez for two weeks so that he can build up shoulder strength.

Martinez, 27, won't throw before being re-evaluated on March 5.

The right-hander endured an injury-plagued season in 2018.

Mike Shildt said an MRI this week showed Martinez's right shoulder was structurally sound.

Pujols, Ohtani Have Opening Day Goal

Feb 18, 2019 12:06 AM

Albert Pujols ate healthier over the offseason and showed up six days ago looking noticeably slimmer despite spending a large chunk of his offseason recovering from August surgery to his left knee. The 39-year-old, who also had bone chips removed from his elbow in September, doesn't know when he'll be ready to play in spring training games, but said: "My goal is to be ready for March [28] on Opening Day."

Shohei Ohtani shared the same sentiment, even if for him it's far more unrealistic.

Angels Hoping To Have Shohei Ohtani Back In May

Feb 13, 2019 8:06 AM

Brad Ausmus says the Los Angeles Angels are hoping to have Shohei Ohtani back and ready to hit "sometime in May."

Ohtani has begun to take some dry swings in the batting cage as he works his way back following Tommy John surgery.

"I'm not going to put a date on it, but we're thinking sometime in May," Ausmus said of Ohtani's possible return date.

Ohtani was medically cleared last month to resume full strength training on his right arm following surgery Oct. 1, including beginning weight training, as the right-hander rebuilds strength on his right side. He is not expected to pitch again until 2020.

Shohei Ohtani Won't Be Ready For Opening Day

Feb 1, 2019 7:53 AM

Shohei Ohtani has been making progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he will not be ready by Opening Day.

Ohtani, who will only be available as a designated hitter in 2019, has been cleared to begin full strength training.

"To pinpoint a timetable is unrealistic," Billy Eppler said, "but what is clear is that his progression will not allow him to be active for Opening Day."
