David Wright Diagnosed With Herniated Disk In Neck

May 31, 2016 6:30 AM

David Wright has been diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck and his short-term availability remains in doubt.

The New York Mets third baseman has been battling through spinal stenosis in his back. The condition limited him to just 38 games in 2015. He's hitting .226/.350/.438 with seven home runs and three stolen bases over his 164 plate appearances thus far this season.

Wright said he should know more about the neck issues on Tuesday.

Salvador Perez Out 7-10 Days With Quad Injury

May 30, 2016 1:20 PM

Royals catcher Salvador Perez is expected to be out seven to 10 days with a bruised left thigh after colliding with rookie third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert while catching a foul popup on Saturday.

Perez's MRI confirmed the injury was a contusion and there was no structural damage.

"Hopefully it's not going to require a trip to the DL," Royals manager Ned Yost said Sunday. "We're hoping he'll be back in seven to 10 days. It could be earlier or later. We'll just have to wait and see and just manage it day to day."

Yu Darvish Wins First Start Since 2014

May 29, 2016 11:28 PM

Yu Darvish hit 98 mph in the first inning of his first start in the majors in almost 22 months.

Texas catcher Bobby Wilson is just glad he wasn't running to the backstop after that pitch, and a few others early in the Rangers' 5-2 inter-league win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was the Japanese right-hander's return from last year's Tommy John surgery Saturday night.

May 29, 2016 11:27 PM

The Blue Jays placed shortstop Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right quadriceps strain.

But Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters that the five-time All-Star aggravated the injury Friday and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday.

Diamondbacks Place Shelby Miller On Disabled List

May 27, 2016 3:20 PM

The Arizona Diamondbacks will place Shelby Miller on the disabled list, according to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Miller, who was acquired from the Atlanta Braves to be the team's No. 2 starter behind Zack Greinke this past offseason, has struggled mightily.

In 45 2/3 innings over ten starts, Miller has surrendered 7.09 earned runs per nine while walking 30 and striking out 29 batters.

The DL stint will be because of finger issues he's battled since scraping his hand on the mound after releasing pitches.

Josh Hamilton To Have Surgery, Miss 2016 Season

May 25, 2016 8:00 AM

Josh Hamilton will undergo left knee surgery and miss the 2016 season, the Texas Rangers have announced.

Hamilton hasn't played this season and is already on the 60-day disabled list. The Rangers had expected him to return at some point this year.

The 35-year-old will have what will be his third surgery on the knee on June 8.

"It's not totally unexpected because of the sheer number of procedures he's had on the knee and the lack of relief that he's had," Jon Daniels said. "It's not a surprise at this point."

Daniels said that Hamilton expects to be back on the field in 2017, which will be the final year of his five-year, $125 million contract.

Ryan Vogelsong Hit In Head By Pitch, Carted Off

May 23, 2016 2:54 PM

Ryan Vogelsong left PNC Park in an ambulance after being struck in the head by a pitch on Monday afternoon.

A 92-mph fastball from the Colorado Rockies' Jordan Lyles rode up and appeared to contact Vogelsong's head under his visor as the pitcher batted with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning.

Vogelsong fell to the ground and stayed there until he was attended to by Pittsburgh head athletic trainer Todd Tomcyzk. It was not clear if Vogelsong ever lost consciousness.

Yu Darvish Ready To Return For Rangers, Could Start Saturday

May 24, 2016 7:47 AM

After throwing 87 pitches on Sunday, Yu Darvish says he's ready to return to the Texas Rangers.

If he feels good on Monday, he will start for the Rangers this coming Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

"After close to 90 pitches today, I feel good for that," he said. "It's hard to tell right now. I have to pitch against those guys. But I feel like I'm good to go."

Darvish hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since Aug. 9, 2014. He tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his first spring start in 2015 and underwent Tommy John surgery March 17, 2015.

A's ace Sonny Gray has been put on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained trapezius muscle near his right shoulder blade.
