Josh Hamilton To Visit Dr. James Andrews

Feb 23, 2016 5:08 PM

Josh Hamilton is seeking a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on his left knee.

Hamilton, who has had two surgeries since September, had a cortisone injection in the knee last month after several weeks of renewed soreness.

The injection provided relief for about three weeks.

"He's had his ups and downs this offseason, and we'd like to find out if there is something else we can do," Jon Daniels said. "You would like to have a better handle on what we can expect from him this year."

Angels Won't Rush Albert Pujols Back For Opener

Feb 19, 2016 6:55 AM

The Los Angeles Angels won't rush Albert Pujols back from right foot surgery.

Pujols is doing some swinging, but still has a lengthy recovery ahead. He had surgery in November after foot pain limited him to a designated-hitter role during the final month of last season.

The club's medical staff doesn't think he'll be ready for the April 4 opener against the Chicago Cubs.

"The doctors have given the timeline, but if you know Albert, you know he always come back quicker than the timeline given," Mike Scioscia said. "But we're definitely not going to sacrifice a lion's share of the season to get him back maybe two weeks before he should."

Mitch Moreland Played With Left Foot Fracture

Feb 18, 2016 4:35 PM

Mitch Moreland revealed on Wednesday that he played the final two months of the 2015 season with a left foot fracture.

The stress fracture started bothering him in August and was likely the result of his ankle surgery from 2014.

"My foot was in a little different position and there was a breaking-in period," Moreland said. "It feels good now. I had a full offseason and even by the end of last season, it started to feel better."

Moreland was better in the first half of the season, but still enjoyed his best season in 2015. He had a .812 OPS with 23 home runs and 85 RBI.

Masahiro Tanaka's First Mound Session Goes Well

Feb 15, 2016 5:49 AM

Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka has gotten through his first mound session since October elbow surgery problem-free, according to an ESPN.com report.

Tanaka reported no issues Sunday to Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild one day after a 20-pitch session at Steinbrenner Field. He had the arthroscopic procedure to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

"He didn't try to push it too much, but it was good,'' Rothschild said. "He wasn't mid-season form, but he was where he should be. His arm worked well. Didn't look like there were any problems. Today he felt good, which was more important.''

Yu Darvish Hopes To Return Around Mid-May

Feb 10, 2016 5:23 PM

Yu Darvish feels stronger than he did before elbow surgery and hopes to return to the Texas Rangers around the middle of May.

"I have no problems at all right now, I have no concerns at all," Darvish said through his translator. "I feel like I can throw 95 [mph] right now, but they're telling me not to, so I'm still taking my time. But I feel really good right now."

Darvish missed all of last season following Tommy John ligament replacement surgery in his right elbow.

"For 10 years, I've been throwing in my career. ... It's kind of like it became routine and I wasn't enjoying it as much as I used to when I first started my career," the 29-year-old pitcher said. "But having that time [away], I feel like I'm enjoying throwing the ball right now."
