Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper remains day-to-day as he continues to recover from a bruised right elbow, leaving his return to the lineup uncertain.

Harper was hit by a 95 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider during the first inning Tuesday. Although X-rays indicated no fracture, Harper described his elbow as "still super sore" and has yet to resume swinging a bat.

Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. could be reinstated from the injured list as soon as Tuesday when the club begins a six-game homestand and he is likely to move to third base when he returns, manager Aaron Boone said Friday.

Chisholm has been on the injured list because of an oblique strain since April 30. He made each of his 29 starts before the injury at second base, but he played third base in his first rehab game Thursday in preparation for a shift.

"It's day-to-day right now," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "So, that's where we're at."

Astros' Lance McCullers Jr. Adds Security To Protect Family

May 30, 2025 3:04 PM

Soon after Lance McCullers Jr.'s family received online death threats following a tough start by the Astros pitcher, his 5-year-old daughter, Ava, overheard wife Kara talking on the phone about it.

What followed was a painful conversation between McCullers and his little girl.

"She asked me when I came home: 'Daddy, like, what is threats? Who wants to hurt us? Who wants to hurt me?'" McCullers told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "So those conversations are tough to deal with."

McCullers is one of two MLB pitchers whose families have received online death threats this month as internet abuse of players and their families is on the rise. Boston Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks took to social media soon after the incident with McCullers to call out people who were threatening Hendriks' wife's life and directing "vile" comments at him.

The Astros contacted MLB security and the Houston Police Department following the threats to McCullers. A police spokesperson said Thursday that it remains an ongoing investigation.

Commissioner Says Reinstating Rose, 'Shoeless' Joe Was 'Overdue'

May 29, 2025 11:44 PM

Commissioner Rob Manfred on Thursday defended his recent decision to reinstate Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other deceased banned players as "baseball living up to the deal they originally made with Pete Rose."

While acknowledging his decision was "overdue," Manfred offered his most fulsome explanation for his May 13 decision to remove Rose, Jackson and other deceased players from MLB's permanently ineligible list. That decision has paved the way for Rose and Jackson to be considered for induction into baseball's Hall of Fame.

Mike Trout To Rejoin Angels On Friday

May 29, 2025 11:40 PM

The Los Angeles Angels will activate superstar outfielder Mike Trout before Friday's game against the Cleveland Guardians, the start of a six-game road trip.

Trout, 33, has been out since sustaining a contusion on his surgically repaired left knee while trying to beat out an infield single on April 30. Since then, Trout has slowly ramped back up to full baseball activities, running the bases and facing a minor league pitcher at Angel Stadium earlier this week. A rehab assignment was not deemed necessary.

Paul Skenes, Pirates Have Yet To Discuss Extension

May 29, 2025 11:27 PM

Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates have yet to discuss a contract extension. Skenes is earning a second-year minimum salary of $875,000 this season.

"That hasn’t happened,” Skenes said. "This is about the here and now. I’m not in any rush for a decision to be made like that. I don’t think they are, either."

Skenes has been involved in trade rumors, which he doesn't believe at this time.

“What trade rumors?” he said. “I don’t think any of that is for real.”

The MLB's recent trend has been for young star players to sign long-term extensions where they exchange more money during their arbitration years in return for cost certainty for early free agent years.
