Aug 31, 2017 9:13 AM

The Astros have announced that they will return to Houston on Saturday with a doubleheader against the New York Mets.

The series between the Astros and Mets had been scheduled to begin Friday, but they will play twice on Saturday and finish the series on Sunday as scheduled.

"We hope that these games can serve as a welcome distraction for our city that is going through a very difficult time. We hope that we can put smiles on some faces," Astros president Reid Ryan said.

A.J. Hinch said that being able to tell his players they would return home soon was "some of the best news I could deliver."

The Astros had to relocate their series against the Texas Rangers this week to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, because of catastrophic flooding in the area from Hurricane Harvey.

Wade Davis Sets Cubs Mark With 27th Straight Save

Aug 30, 2017 8:06 AM

Wade Davis set a franchise record for the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night when he converted his 27th consecutive save.

"To have the record here is pretty impressive," Joe Maddon said. "He's a pitcher. He has a starting pitcher's mentality as a closer. He has weapons for righties or lefties. It doesn't matter the hitter. Good for him because that [record] will probably last for a while."

Davis didn't stick around to discuss the feat with the media.

He is now 27-for-27 in save attempts this season. He the only pitcher with more than three saves or more that hasn't blown one in 2017.

Chris Sale Fastest In Major League History With 1,500 Ks

Aug 30, 2017 7:59 AM

Chris Sale struck out Kevin Pillar of the Toronto Blue Jays in the second inning Tuesday night to reach 1,500 career strikeouts faster than any pitcher in Major League history.

"It's hard for me to fathom that a guy can record that many strikeouts in less than 1,300 innings," John Farrell said. "Really remarkable."

Sale, who struck out 11 and allowed three hits in seven innings, considered his achievement "pretty crazy."

"This game has been around a long time," he said. "To do that, it's cool. I appreciate it. I try not to get too caught up in it but I definitely take a step back and look at that and appreciate it."

The milestone came in Sale's 1,290th inning pitched.
