The Nationals acquired closer Brandon Kintzler from the Twins right before the Trade Deadline on Monday. Minnesota will receive Minor League left-hander Tyler Watson and international bonus pool money from Washington.
Kintzler, 32, is 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 28 saves in 45 1/3 innings for the Twins this season. He figures to form a dynamic late-inning trio with lefty Sean Doolittle and righty Ryan Madson, who were acquired from the Athletics earlier this month.
Watson is 6-4 with a 4.35 ERA for Double-A Hagerstown this season. He was rated the Nationals' No. 17 prospect by MLBPipeline.com.
