Wade Davis Agrees Upon Three-Year, $52M Deal With Rockies

Dec 29, 2017 1:18 PM

The Colorado Rockies have agreed upon a three-year, $52 million deal with Wade Davis.

Davis was the best reliever on the free agent market.

Colorado has become a landing spot for top relievers this winter, with Jake McGee and Bryan Shaw signing three-year, $27 million deals and Davis turning the total guarantee outlay by the club on bullpen arms to $106 million.

Giants May Be Favorites To Sign Jay Bruce

Dec 23, 2017 1:34 AM

After acquiring Evan Longoria earlier this week, the San Francisco Giants may be preparing to add another bat to their offense.

They are considered the favorites to sign Jay Bruce in free agency.

"I think it works out as a perfect fit for the Giants, and we have to figure out the lay of the land, whether it works for the Giants and if it works for us," agent Matt Sosnick said Wednesday on KNBR-AM. "I think if Jay ended up in San Francisco, he'd be thrilled."

Bruce was deep in talks with the Houston Astros, but those negotiations unraveled.

Phillies Won't Issue Roy Halladay's No. 34 In 2018

Dec 22, 2017 7:58 AM

The Philadelphia Phillies will honor Roy Halladay by not allowing anyone to wear No. 34 next season.

Halladay died Nov. 7 when his ICON A5 aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. He was 40 years old.

He spent just four seasons with the Phillies, but left a huge impression.

Andrew Knapp wore No. 34 last season, but recently switched to No. 15.

It is unclear how else the Phillies might recognize or honor Halladay next season.

Zach Britton Suffers Torn Achilles, Will Have Surgery

Dec 21, 2017 8:28 AM

The Baltimore Orioles suffered a major blow on Wednesday when they learned that Zach Britton ruptured his right Achilles sprinting during an offseason workout.

Britton is expected to have surgery on Thursday and will be sidelined for at least four months.

"It's probably the most frustrating thing I've experienced," the reliever said. "Last year [being on the disabled list was disappointing], but those were minor things. Now, this isn't something that's going to affect me long term. As soon as I have the surgery and rehab, I can get back to pitching like I can pitch. It's not career threatening or anything like that. But it's just going to be a real grind. I was really frustrated because I was feeling good with the forearm and the knee. I was about to throw bullpens. I was right where I wanted to be."

Britton will be eligible for free agency after the 2018 season.
