A's Claim Tyler Nevin Off Waivers From Orioles

The Athletics claimed infielder Tyler Nevin, a son of former Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin, off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Nevin, 26, has a .203 batting average with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 105 at-bats over three seasons with the Orioles and Detroit Tigers. He was reacquired by the Orioles in January from Detroit, then designated him for assignment Thursday.

Oakland To Present A's Ownership With Lease Extension

The city of Oakland will present Athletics ownership with an offer to extend the team's lease that includes a five-year contract with an opt-out after three years, as well as a requirement the team pays a $97 million "extension fee," according to document obtained by ESPN and KGO in San Francisco.

The team and the city will meet on Tuesday, the third formal meeting between the two sides since the Athletics received unanimous approval from major-league owners to move the franchise to Las Vegas.

Thousands Of A's Fans Protest By Watching Opener In Parking Lot

Thousands of Athletics fans gathered in the Coliseum's south parking lot before Thursday night's Opening Day game against the Cleveland Guardians to try out a new way of displaying their displeasure with the team's ownership: showing up but staying away.

In what might be the beginning of the team's final season in Oakland, fans waved hundreds of "SELL" flags, ate free tacos and listened to live music. What most of them didn't do was enter the stadium to watch the game, choosing to continue the party through the night by watching the game on a blowup projection screen. The announced crowd for the game -- 13,522.

Joe Boyle will begin the 2024 season in the starting rotation for the Oakland Athletics.

The right-hander will be the club's fifth starter behind Alex Wood, Ross Stripling, Paul Blackburn and JP Sears.

Boyle, 24, was a fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2020 draft and made his big league debut with the A's last September.

The Oakland Athletics and their design teams released renderings Tuesday of the club's planned $1.5 billion stadium in Las Vegas that show five overlapping layers with a similar look to the famous Sydney Opera House.

The A's hope to move into that 33,000-seat domed stadium in 2028, depending mostly on the construction timeline. A glass window beyond the outfield provides an outdoor feel with views of the Las Vegas Strip.

Josh Donaldson, who won the American League MVP during a 13-year career, announced his retirement Monday.

Donaldson, 38, made the announcement on the podcast of former player Sean Casey.

Donaldson finishes his career with 279 home runs, 1,310 hits and a long-earned reputation as a someone who competed with an edge, unafraid of offending opponents. He had his best season in 2015 with Toronto, when he hit 41 homers and drove in a league-high 123 runs, while scoring an MLB-high 122 runs. Donaldson received 23 of 30 first-place votes for the MVP, finishing ahead of Mike Trout for the award.
